यावज्जीवं अधीते विप्रः



यावज्जीवं अधीते विप्रः
yaavat jeevam adheete vipraH
A vipra, that is a man whose eagerness for knowledge and pursuit for such knowledge is in the right direction would be learning and acquiring knowledge, as long as he is alive
Vipra
The atri Samhita Defines various stages of a learned person, who is referred to as a brahmana as follows
A person may be understood as a Brahmin by his birth. When the necessary preliminary introductory functions enabling him to pursue his path of knowledge, he is called Dvija.. because the investiture ceremony is his second birth.. Through education he further attains the status of a Vipra and a person who is Brahmana, Dvija and Vipra too is designated as shrotriya
जन्मना ब्राह्मणो ज्ञेयः संस्कारैर्द्विज उच्यते। विद्यया याति विप्रत्वं त्रिभिः श्रोत्रिय उच्यते॥ - (अत्रिसंहिता, श्लोकः १४०)
janmanaa braahmano jneyaH samskaaraiH dvija uchyate vidyayaa yaathi vipratvam tribhiH shrotriya uchyate. ( Atrisamhita.. slokam 140
vipra actually means a scholar to whom any complicated questions can be put, and he would be able to give right and proper answers and clear the doubts of the questioner.
