But the eating definitely has a moral dimension too ....
Most of the utsavams and Nama sankeertanam bashes (festivals and collective celebrations in hindu society )are planned in such a way that many parasites just eat away in feasts most of the money collected from the devotees and the public or misappropriate funds to enable themselves to eat and enjoy for long periods ..during the festivity and for so many days after that
And if you analyze the constitution of the committee etc you will find that the fellows at the executive level are mostly hard core swindlers..
True, some idiot of a VIP will be foisted as a patron or a President having no idea as to how the funds are misappropriated..
And in every group we will find specialist families who will be present ubiquitously wherever eating is involved, and they will have even empty vessels ready with them
and they would manage to take away all sorts of eatables(after each member having filled his tummy to double its capacity) stating that some old man or woman at home or in the neighbourhood could not make it to the feast..
The payasam( a sweet porridge ) and pulikachal ( an appetizer or condiment having tamarind and chillies as main ingredients .. sort of a sauce) of a Saastapreethi (festival in honour of Lord Ayyappan) will be stored in huge quantities in the fridges of these people and they would be eating food for the following week or fortnight without burning their gas stoves..
I can cite some other issues too but I do not want to indulge in gender discrimination.. I post this with a view to highlight the fact that the community eating is eminently connected with morality or lack of it..
