अदत्वा मादृशो मा भूः दत्ववा त्वं त्वादृशी भव ।

adhattwa maadruso ma abhooh dathwa twam twaadrisee bhava
the beggar who visits the doorsteps of everyone is in fact not begging for alms .
He is giving the advice that you do not become one like me by not giving anything to anybody , but be charitable and continue to be like yourself (as you are now)
this is a rustic subhashitam but conveys a terse message

വീടുതോറും കയറിയിറങ്ങി യാചിക്കുന്ന ഭിക്ഷക്കാരന്‍ യഥാര്‍ത്ഥത്തില്‍ നമ്മോടു യാചിക്കുകയല്ല ചെയ്യുന്നത്. നമുക്ക് ഒരു നല്ല പാഠം അയാള്‍ ഇങ്ങോട്ട് തരികയാണ്.
"ഞാന്‍ ആര്‍ക്കും ഒന്നും കൊടുത്തില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ട് പിച്ചക്കാരനായി. താങ്കളും അങ്ങിനെ ചെയ്യാതെ വന്നവര്‍ക്കെല്ലാം ദാനം കൊടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് താങ്കള്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ നയിച്ചുവരുന്ന നല്ല ജീവിതം തുടര്‍ന്നുകൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കൂ." എന്നതാന്‍ ആ പാഠം
