No one is having any permanent  follower or sponsor.  When the fruits in the tree are all eatenup the birds fly away seeking more fruitladen trees.  The creanes do not wait up the lakes which are shrinking in water.  The flower which has been alive for a day and had given nectar to the honeybee is  abandoned  at the end of the day.  When  the wildfire denudes the forests, the animals migrate to greener pasture.  The prostitute leaves the moneyless man for ever.  The king who has lost his kingdom  loses his retinue of advisers, psycophants and ministers.  Usually people attach themselves to someone who is affluent only to derive some benefit.  Ones the period of productivity is gone man is all alone.

The wisdom of  vidura  more than three millenia ago has scaled dizzy heights not attainable even to day by the politicians of today.   When a wise man sets his mind on some high  goal, he would has already prepared the action plan meticulously, and having set out on it he never gives up the attempt midway, nor he wastes his time.  He is always the master of himself in executing the task.
On the same lines Kanfusion appears to arrogate on himself the mantle of vidura,  having decided to become a nuisance to his friends and armed with some grandmother texts and halfbaked knowledge of some languages  wasting already useless time and madly insomniac , assinine, despatches these mails to one an all.

He that understandeth quickly, listeneth patiently, pursueth his objects with judgment and not from desire and spendeth not his breath on the affairs of others without being asked, is said to possess the foremost mark of wisdom ( meaning by kisar Mohan ganguly)
It is indeed rare to see wise men like this in the present era of activism..While starting on a discussion the participant wants to be ahead of others. Crass one upmanship. He does not study his brief. Then what to understand? He has to be a chatterbox talking out of context often to impress his boss (who may be equally "learned") The present manager is only interested in the advancement of his career leaving behind for the successor a legacy of mess. Talking without being asked or not interfering with others matters? When does the chamcha shut his mouth and the tales he carry are too long. What an uncomfortable contrast from the wisdom of Vidura.
Maybe, the avant garde manager today will say that you will left with a long white beard and moustache and nothing else like Vidura, if you follow his dicta

exalted birth and low deeds

In spite of having been blessed with the rare fortune of being born in the Karambhoomi  of Bharatavarsha,  if  one just does not take care to perform  divine  deeds like penance, but spent his time   making a porridge in of useless lumps remaining after extracting oil from sesame seeds (ellinpinnaakku) in a vessel made of vaidurya (lapiz lazooli), in turn using best sandalwood as fuel,  or  if one tries to till the soil with golden plough to sow the seeds of silk cotton, or  if one tries to cultivate inferior grains like bajra with the field protected by a large stone fence made of large rocks of camphor ,     one can only  say that he is either  the victim of misfortune  or he is ignorant of the greatness of his birth and is plodding on like an idiot.
The poet of course might be exaggerating  the silly deeds of the people in spite of their fortune  of having birth in this land,  but it is definite that mere birth will not take one to great heights but  his good deeds alone can  make his day.

Please cut off connections and camaraderie with evil people and always look out for and secure the company of the noble and wise ones.  Do good without caring for day and night and always remember what we find as routine things happening daily can abruptly cease to happen.

The well meaning friends will always guide us in the right way but the timeservers would overload us with sweet homilies which may not be of any use at the crunch hour.  As chanakya said elsewhere, the god of death is always having a hand on our hair ready to drag us to his world, hence we should never wait for day or night to do good.  There are too many good things to be done in this life,  and we may not be able to do everything… but can't we try to do  our best before we depart? " Miles to go before  I sleep " to quote Frost.

There are many enigmas which defy definition but mother is the sweetest one

यं मातापितरौ क्लेशं सहेते संभवे नृणां।
न तस्य निष्कृतिः शक्या कर्तुं वर्षशतैरपि॥

The most impossible thing for a son is to pay back even a minuscule   of  what his mother and father have suffered without complaint  while  bringing him to this earth and bringing him up as a man in the best and sincerest way  they could  manage.  Hundreds of years of devoted service  to them would not suffice.

If one always attempts to be of affectionate service to them and also the preceptor or the teacher who has opened one's eyes with education and  if the parents and the teachers are pleased with such services, there is nothing more to be gained in life by years of penance.

The mother and father will have only love for their child whether the latter cares for them or not. We think we have become great in all respects… but  to think of one's mother, now perhaps a human skeleton made ugly by age and suffering…For her the big executive or the rich entrepreneur is just the child who cried for milk or struggled miserably to escape from the remnants of his own urine and excreta. Had she not taken care for that small helpless frame, where will be the executive or the boss now?  Believe in God, or don't do it if you prefer, but what about the Mother..? There are many enigmas which defy definition but mother is the sweetest one

beware of bad words

ललितान्तानि गीतानि कुवाक्यान्तं च सौहृदं।
प्रणमान्तः  सतां कोपो याचनान्तम् हि गौरवं।

praamāntah satā kopo yācanāntam hi gaurava|

सुभाषितं

Songs conclude with soft notes,
intimate friendships get broken by exchange of unpleasant words,
the anger of  a noble man disappears completely  when he is mollified  through a pranaam
and one's  self respect and dignity is lost irrecoverably once he starts begging.

Unfortunate and impolite  exchange of words between friends too often results in snapping of the lifelong  relations in many cases.
If a really noble person is angry for some reason,  his anger could be pacified if the wrongdoer  admits his error and makes respectful  amends for the offence.
A man, however elite his position is, if he is brought  down to the position of begging,  all his dignity  will be thrown to winds.
And melodies conclude with soft notes…that is a happy thing.

Oh my mind, why are you roaming around undecided and miserable? Please be quiet and calm. Whatever is to happen will definitely happen. There is no remedy for it. I shall live a contended life without pondering over what has already happened and enjoying whatever comes by my way without any expectation.
The great poet is explaining the vagaries of fate. There is always a huge gap between what we expect to happen, whether it is good or bad and what is really happening. Crying over that and remaining inactive will be of no use. Human life is a huge oven where the mind is getting smelted willy-nilly

A brahmin can be made immensely happy by treating him to a gourmet meal.
The peacocks dance with supreme joy when they hear the roar of a distant raincloud.
The noble men are pleased when they  find that all the people are wealthy and well.
But the evil fellow will be happy only when he finds or ensures that  all others are in utter misery.

It cannot be denied that there are a substantial number of people who can find happiness only if they ensure that others are unhappy. The holy  Bible said, Love your neighbour in the same way you love yourself... but for the wretched arrogant fellow, it is " Hate your neighbour in the same way you love yourself..

It is indeed very miserable for one to remain an ignoramus.  Similarly for everyone the adolescence will be quite cumbersome because one has to learn the lessons of life and master the means of livelihood in the hard way during that stage in life.  But the most unbearable misery is to stay in the household of some other person.
The difficulties we face even when we stay for a few days as a guest in the house of the most cordial host would have been realized by all.  One cannot have any privacy, and after a few hours one become an imposition on the rhythm of life of the host.  So many compromises  have to be made both by the guest and the host. If by some quirk of fate one is forced to live as an outsider in closely  knit family circuit, life becomes most miserable.  It is even more so when the hosts are not much compassionate.  The mushrooming of old age homes everywhere  bears eloquent testimony to this sad fact.

Fwd: what is that?

there is a spelling mistake in english meaning... instead of O Brahmna please read O brahma (i want to clarify there is no caste cansideration the hymn is adressed to parabrahma)

-
ॐ अन्तश्चरति भूतेषु गुहायां विश्वमूर्तिषु।

That supreme Lord moves in the innards of the heart of every being created in forms whatsoever. O the supreme brahman, you are the sacrifice itself, you are the Vashat manthra, you manifest as Indra, Rudra, Brahmadeva and Prajapati . You are the water, the water that flows in the rivers and the ocean. You are the sun. You are the essential flavour of everything. You are the ambrosia, you are he embodiment of Vedas and you are the threefold world bhuh, bhuvah swah..

The life of a person without education is just a waste like the tail of a dog. The tail of the dog fails to conceal the private parts of the animal and it is of no use in driving of the insects which cover the body.. Likewise a person who is not educated does not have the culture to know what to reveal and what to conceal. Also he cannot have enough food to satisfy this urge to chew with his teeth nor will he have the discrimination as to when to show teeth and when not to do it.

The earth is the giver of happiness like the milch cow, the sustainer of life and support for all living beings.
(Represented as such the earth is addressed):
Thou wert raised up by Krishna in His incarnation of the boar having hundred hands.

O excellent earth, destroy my evil deeds as well as sins connected with me.
O excellent earth, thou art a gift from God to creatures.
Thou art prayed over by Kashyapa.
O excellent earth grant me prosperity, for everything depends on thee.

O excellent earth, on which all creatures are supported, cleanse all that (sin) from me. O excellent earth, my sins having been destroyed by thee, I attain to the highest goal.

It is really heartening to see how our forefathers were so respectful to the natural resources.  They knew that the soil was the greatest asset and sustainer of life on earth and worshipped it as if it were their mother.
The real sons of the soil.

what good have I done today?

आयुषः खण्डमादाय रविरस्तमयं गतः।

The sun sets every day taking with him a lump of our lifetime.  Hence every day we should take careful stock of whatever good we have done .
We should always remember that our lifespan can be counted in terms and a fixed number of sunsets.. We cannot afford any luxury with our time.. All we can do is to do good and more good in the limited time we have.  Once the curtains are down we can do neither good nor bad.

महाकविकालिदासकृते कुमारसंभवे महाकाव्ये
from the mahakavyam Kumarasambhavam written by Kalidasa.

On conclusion of the yajna by Daksha the Divine Mother Daakshayani, unable to bear the insults hurled at her husband Lord Shiva, committed supreme sacrifice by immolating herself in the fire generated by herself through Her yogic powers.

The Rudra, unable to bear the separation from Her, carries the body through the whole of India and to assuage His sorrow and dangerous wrath Bhagavan Vishnu followed him with His discus Sudarsana and cuts the body of the Sati, the Daakshaayani, so that it fell away in various places of this Holy land and the places where such parts fell became the Supreme shrines of the Mother in India.

Finally Shiva went into the deepest meditation .

The Mother was entreated to take a second life for the protection of the universe and in time She manifested herself in a lotus flower in the precincts of Himalaya.

The lord of Himalaya discovered her and adopted Her as his child and called her Parvathi and Uma.
The child Uma grew, and was being initiated into the various arts and sciences by erudite scholars.

Kalidasa in the Sloka above is describing the scene of getting Uma educated.

“It was indeed wonderful that the child was seen receiving a spontaneous flow of all Vidhyaas already acquired by her in her previous births, even as the scholars were trying to impart the basics of knowledge to Her...

It was like the spontaneous flow of swans to Ganga in the autumn season,

like the self luminosity spontaneously taking over the medicinal herbs at night.”

The simile of Kalidasa(उपमा कालिदासस्य) is at its supreme sublimity here.

The Divine Mother herself is the Vidya, all knowledge emanates from Her.

Who will venture to educate Her?

Taam… her..

Hamsamaalaa…… row of group of swans arrayed together like garland..

sharadi gangaam iva.. like (reaching) Ganga in the Autumn season…

Mahaushadeem…. Holy herbal plants….

Naktam… during night..

Aatmabhaasah.. (iva) (getting) luminescence spontaneiously.. Sthiropadesaam… Being well taught

Upadeshakaale… at the time of limparting education.. Praaktanajana vidhyaaH… lessons learned in the previous life

Prapedire .. reached her without any impediment..

(Srimad Bhagavatamahapuranam Dashamaskanadm
Chapter
52--slokas 37 to 43)

( श्रीमद भागवतमहापुराणे दशमस्कन्दे अध्यायः 52 श्लोकाः 37--43)

Meaning of the seven sloka message that  Rukmini sent to Krishna

( free translation avoiding technicalities to the extent possible) is given below)
Krishna, you are the most attractive person in the whole
universe, and having listened to your glories which enter one's
thought through the ears and destroys all woes of the body and
mind, and Oh Achyutha, my shameless mind dwells upon you
incapable of being wrenched away from your beautiful form
which is the ultimate thing for anyone to set his eyes upon and
that form bestows on all eternal fortune.

Oh Mukunda, which girl , who has some strength of mind, who
is born of high family , and in at least some way comparable to
you in upbringing, character beauty, education ,age, wealth
and status would not simply woo you by mind, you who looks
like a lion in human form (you were once Narasaimha) and
who is simply enchanting to the minds of all the living beings
in this world.

Therefore, you please accept me who has by my own will
accepted you as my husband in mind and has simply placed my
body and soul at your lotus feet, as you are the granter of all
boons. Now I belong to you. Don't permit the king of Chedhi
the Sisupala to take possession of me. It will be like a wily
jackal stealing away the royal food earmarked for the
consumption of the Lion.

If it a fact that you, the Lord of the Universe, have been
worshiped by me with full devotion through good deeds like
digging of ponds and lakes, offering to fire, through gifts to
deserving people, through pilgrimages, through offerings to
Brahmins on auspicious occasions, through worship of
Brahmins, gods and preceptors, then you must immediately
reach here and take possession of me through accepting my
hands. My hands should not be dirtied by an evil fellow like
sisupala.

You Krishna the unconquerable, you please come over to
Vidharabha tomorrow itself without being noticed by anyone.
You must annihilate or defeat the Sisupala and his retinue with
your own valour and marry me through the rakshasa method
as a prize for your valour.

If you are wondering how you can enter the palace at Vidarbha
and accept me without causing damage to the lives of my
relatives, I shall inform you the right way. On the eve of the
marriage day there is a big procession to the Durga temple .
Accompanying that procession, me the bride, will be going to
the Parvati temple for worship.

My Krishna, gods like the husband of Uma are eagerly
awaiting to bathe themselves in the dust of your feet so that
their own weaknesses will be removed. If it is my fate that I
am not fortunate to get the protection from such great Krishna, I will kill myself through severe austerities in this life and will be born in hundreds of future lives till I attain your company.

An important Note

In Bhagavatham, nowhere
there is  any indication that Rukmini sent a letter to Krishna..She only sent a brahmin as emissary with the above message.

But then there is an interesting story behind the theory that there was a letter. It concerns the celebrated devotee of Guruvayurappan, Poonthanam Nambuthiri. It is heard that Poonthanam, though an ardent devotee of Guruvayurappan, was not a scholar in Sankrit by any standards. However in his great devotion to Guruvayurappan, he used to narrate the story of Bhagavatham in the temple precincts at Guruvayur.. As an innocent remark, Poonthanam once stated during his narration that Rukmini sent a letter with the above message to Krishna through the brahmin. An intolerant brahmin scholar, intent on humiliating Poonthanam in pulic, raised the issue as to where it was written in Bhagavatham that there was a letter.

Then there came the voice of Guruvayurappan from His Sreekovil..

" Is it said in Bhagavatham that there is no such letter? I know there was a letter because I received and saw it"

This episode is narrated vividly in the Aitihyamala of Kottarathil Sankunni.
