People of real worth and class should know when to be tough and when to be soft.. That discretion comes to them so naturally.. But people who watch them would never be able to understand how that switchover in attitude really occurs.
The meaning of the Slokam
The minds of the greatest among men in the world would be at times tougher than diamond itself and would be softer than the petals of flowers at other times.. Who can really comprehend how such great minds work?
The attitude changes like this.. When very tough and difficult decisions are to be taken and acted upon by the great person himself, he converts his mind so tough as if it is diamond itself..
However, when he is on a mission to help the difficulties or miseries faced by others his mind melts with compassion, and the mind is as soft as a flower.
Also, when the noble man is in a position of affluence where he can help others, his mind is as soft as flowers and he helps one and all.
However, when he is facing a financial cruch, he becomes tough with himself, and his mind becomes rock solid, and he would not deign it proper to beg and compromise just to sustain himself.

അന്തസ്സും ആഭിജാത്യവും ഉള്ള വ്യക്തികള്‍ ജീവിതതോടുള്ള അവരുടെ സമീപനം എപ്പോഴെല്ലാം ദൃഡതയോടു കൂടിയതാവണം എപ്പോഴെല്ലാം മൃദു ആവണം എന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് ബോധവാന്മാരായിരിക്കണം. നല്ല മനുഷ്യര്‍ക്ക് ഈ വിവേചനം സ്വാഭാവികമായിത്തന്നെ ഉണ്ടാവും. പക്ഷെ അവരുടെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ കണ്ടുനില്‍ക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് ആ മാറ്റങ്ങളുടെ പൊരുള്‍ മനസ്സിലാവുകയില്ല തന്നെ.
ഈ ശ്ലോകത്തിന്‍റെ അര്‍ത്ഥം
ലോകത്തില്‍ ഏറ്റവും മഹാന്മാരായ വ്യക്തികളുടെ മനസ്സ് ചില സന്ദര്‍ഭങ്ങളില്‍ വജ്രത്തേക്കാള്‍ കടുപ്പം ഏറിയതായി കാണപ്പെടും. മറ്റു ചില സന്ദര്‍ഭങ്ങളില്‍ പുഷ്പങ്ങളെക്കാള്‍ മൃദുലങ്ങളാവും അതേ മനസ്സുകള്‍. ലോകം പുകഴ്ത്തുന്ന അത്തരം മഹത്തുക്കളുടെ മനസ്സ് അറിയാന്‍ ആര്‍ക്കു കഴിയും?
മഹാന്മാരുടെ ചിന്താഗതി മാറുന്നത് ഇപ്രകാരമാണ്.
സ്വന്തം കാര്യങ്ങളില്‍ കടുപ്പമേറിയ, വെല്ലുവിളികള്‍ മറികടക്കേണ്ട തീരുമാനങ്ങള്‍ എടുക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അത്തരം വ്യക്തികള്‍ സ്വന്തം മനസ്സിനെ വജ്രം പോലെ കഠിനമാക്കി ന്യായപൂര്‍വം പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കും.
പക്ഷെ ദുരിതവും കഷ്ടതയും അനുഭവിക്കുന്ന സഹജീവികളുടെ കാര്യത്തില്‍ തീരുമാനമെടുക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അതേ മനസ്സുകളില്‍ കാരുണ്യവും സ്നേഹവും നിറഞ്ഞു തുളുമ്പും. ആ മനസ്സുകള്‍ പൂവിതളുകള്‍ പോലെ മൃദുലങ്ങളാവും
പിന്നെ നല്ല മനസ്സുള്ള വ്യക്തിക്ക് കൈയില്‍ ധാരാളം പണം ഉള്ളപ്പോള്‍ മറ്റുള്ളവരെ സഹായിക്കുന്ന സന്ദര്‍ഭം വന്നാല്‍ ആ മനസ്സ് വളരെ മൃദുലമാവും.
പക്ഷെ സ്വന്തം ജീവിതത്തില്‍ ദാരിദ്ര്യവും കഷ്ടപ്പാടും വന്നാല്‍ ആ സമയം അയാളുടെ മനസ്സ് പാറ പോലെ ഉറച്ചതാവും. വെല്ലുവിളികളെ നേരിട്ടു മുന്നേറും. അദ്ദേഹം ആരോടും യാചിക്കുകയോ, സ്വന്തം നിലപാടുകളില്‍ വെള്ളം ചേര്‍ക്കുകയോ ഒരിക്കലും ചെയ്യില്ല.
