उपचारः कर्तव्यो यावदनुत्पन्नसौहृदाः पुरुषाः।
उत्पन्नसौहृदानामुपचारः कैतवं भवति॥
बल्लालदेवस्य भोजप्रबन्धे ॥
upacāraḥ kartavyo yāvadanutpannasauhṛdāḥ puruṣāḥ|
utpannasauhṛdānāmupacāraḥ kaitavaṁ bhavati||
ballāladevasya bhojaprabandhe ||
Formal show of respect with all protocol activity is required only in respect of men with whom we have not yet developed genuine friendship.
Once a person has become a genuine friend show of respect in his case would look artificial and will be of little use..
The message is that friendship thrives more on sincerity than mere formality..
