Saying that there should no pride in anything does not mean that one should let all and sundry to ride rough over his head.
We can give respect,
empathy,
affection,
show concern,
listen to our peers and subordinates
and all.
But we need not clown or play to the crowd and make our dignity a tradeable commodity.
Of course we might get the highest price if we sell our dignity.
But the price we get in the bargain will not be of any use to us.
