Regarding Onam legend

Regarding Onam legend
My point is that people on either side.. the ultra religionists and the hardcore rationalists , both exaggerate the issues.
The same story line gets distorted versions in different puranas. So however you try you will not find much logic anywhere.
The harvest festival in Kerala had different dimensions. Tribal customs.. Varna Customs Shudra customs, non religious practices..all these were put together ..some moral significance was also woven into it.
Some stories and legends too were inlaid into the social fabric.
Mahabali , Vamana, Shukra, Maveli, Thrikkaakkarppan, etc were gelled together over centuries and our present idea of Onam is a sort of mosaic..it can be very beautiful in loving hands and it can be demonic in the wrong hands.
I have to make only one remark Anyone can present his own version. He is free to do that. But if there is an assumed tone that the version canvassed by him is the best one or the only one and that what others say are rather foolish or idiotic ( one may not say that in words but his tone and use of words might betray hid prejudices) then he is harming our culture rather than furthering its cause.
Of course freedom of speech today means a lot of talk .. often telling what should not be told and also not telling what should be told.
