sterling character provides one special decoration

न मुक्ताभिर्न माणिक्यैः न वस्त्रैर्न परिच्छदैः

अलन्ङ्क्रियेत शीलेन केवलं हि मानवः॥

na muktābhirna māṇikyaiḥ na vastrairna paricchadaiḥ

alanṅkriyate śīlena kevalaṁ hi mānavaḥ||

It is not really and necessarily by virtue of wearing pearls or rubies, not though wearing grand clothes nor through occupying safe sheleters or covering oneself with ornamental shields that a person is really decorated and his importance reckoned. It is indeed his sterling character and his conduct with his fellow human beings that provides him special decoration.

मानवः a man , a person मुक्ताभिः pearls न not माणिक्यैः rubies न not वस्त्रैः clothes न not परिच्छदैः by coverings, shields, shelters, न not अलङ्क्रियेत get decorated, get fortified शीलेन character strength of character केवलं merely, alone हि indeed सः he अलङ्क्रियेत is decorated, he becomes identified, becomes distinguished
