what you have to do do quick

न कश्चिदपि जानाति किं कस्य श्वो भविष्यति।
अतः श्वः करणीयानि कुर्यात् अद्यैव बुद्धिमान्॥
na kaścidapi jānāti kiṁ kasya śvo bhaviṣyati|
ataḥ śvaḥ karaṇīyāni kuryāt adyaiva buddhimān||

सुभाषितशतत्रयात्
subhāṣitaśatatrayāt

No human being has any means of guessing what is going to happen to him tomorrow.  Hence a person if he has any wisdom will complete the task which has to be definitely done tomorrow  today itself.

In this connection the following doha of Kabir is very relevant

काल करे सो आज कार आज कार सो अब
पल में परलय होयेगी बहूरि करोगे कब
kaal kare so aaj kaar aaj kaar so ab, pal me pralay hoyegi bahuuri karoge kab?
Kabeer das goes many steps ahead,  if you have to do something tomorrow, you do it today, if you have to do it today do it at this moment itself..perhaps the deluge may visit us tomorrow, then who would have completed his duties, had he not taken  adequate care.

Procrastination is the twin brother of the non-acheivement.  In day to day life parents delay the education, marriage etc of their children to the farthest possible timeline and the children go wayward in education and make unfortunate choices in life without proper guidance.  For some people even the faith in God or serendipity becomes a dampener--" He will look after things at the proper time " is their stock phrase.  No, God the Krishna has declared in Gita..." I dont sit idle even for a split second" .
We try to build dams after all the waters have flown away.  Every professional person is a living example of  lethargy.  If a thing is to be decided, if a report is to be submitted, if an order is to be passed on a particular day he waits till the last moment. He can fall ill, his secretary can take a day off or the computer system can fail.. and he is in for trouble. No law says something should not be completed before the moment of limitation.  People in the legal profession would be aware how all the seats of judiciary including the Supreme court frown upon such last minute slips. But we hardly learn. If it is for making excuses and applications for condonation there can be always reasons..some of them very glib. But time and tide waits for nobody.  This very sentiment was echoed by Chanakya in his treatise, chanakya niiti  "gruheeta iva kesheshu mrutyuna dharmam aacharet...". one should do good things without any delay well aware that the God of death has already caught hold of his tuft to drag him away to the abode of death.
Remember we can make excuses to the human bosses and even antedate our actions (with the computer it is difficult although) ,  but what are we having as excuse before our Maker?
Krishna may be a playful boy but he is not a fool.
