appearances can win the day..

nirviṣeṇāpi sarpeṇa kartavyo mahatī phaṇāḥ
viṣamastu na cāpyastu phaṭāṭopo bhayaṅkaraḥ
canakya nīti

Even if its poison fangs are removed, it is in its own  interests of a cobra to raise its hood wide and make hissing noises.
The onlooker, will not be aware of the loss of poison and ever the terrible sight of the upheld wide hood will scare away the enemies.

The master Chanakya  advises  that even if a person actually   knows that his chips are down, he should always put on a brave face.
Most of the antagonists are carried away by the appearance and may never know that the material behind the brave face is just nothing .

And  if one decides to suffer in silence without any protest,  he is just free to suffer..
His woes will never end..
