The illustrious Rama had reached the outskirts of Lanka and was ready for war.  Ravana sent his commander in chief  of army with a huge force to prevent Rama from starting the war itself.  But the general and his army were annihilated by the monkey force led by Hanuman, Sugriva, Nala etc.  Ravana thought he should personally appear before Rama and his army and drive them away.. He did appear in all his splendour and valour.  He could vanquish many of the important monkey chiefs.  But Ravana's valour was tempered and he could face the impossibility of the situation even during his fight with Sri Hanuman.  Once he was rendered unconscious for about an hour by a simple punch from the right fist of Hanuman.  But Ravana braced up himself and started showering arrows at Hanuman.  The arrows pierced the Divine body of Aanjaneya but even while he was bleeding profusely, Hanuman's energy never ebbed. It was a situation where Hanuman was using his fist and Ravana was using his arrows.  Finally Hanuman brought Ravana to the presence of Rama. Seeing His friend and second self Hanuman bleeding profusely, Rama's anger knew no bounds.  With a single arrow Sri Rama  destroyed the chariot of Ravana and brought Ravana to subjugation.. The poet exclaims at the turn of things.. Ravana had fought and vanquished the great fighters like Indra.  He never had an occasion to flee. He was firm and fearless always.  But when hit by an arrow of Rama,
" That powerful Ravana,, the heroic monarch who never felt disturbed, much less shook under the impact of a thunderbolt of Indra or the lightning, reeled when he was stuck by a single arrow of Rama, and was greatly agonised and let his bow drop from his hands and swooned."
But Rama wanted to fight and root out the evil forces of Ravana, lock stock and barrel. And he did not want to kill the unconscious enemy who had dropped his bow.  So He administered a warning to Ravana that good sense should prevail.  And he also asked him to return for an encounter, if he desired so, after he had refurbished himself  for a good fight.

Rama's sharp arrows were directed against evil.  But as a living icon and Godhead, His soothing benevolence is reserved for all those who tread the path of righteousness.  Rama's life is a saga of fight for truth and dharma.. Ramo Vigrahavaan DharmaH... Rama is Dharma incarnate as a human being.   May we try to tread the path of Satya and Dharma and may the benevolent Grace of Rama be with us always
The month of Ramayanam ends today. I was trying to post a lot from Ramayanam the aadikaavyam during the past one month.  There are many mistakes, in words, sentences and ideas,  But May  Rama in his endless mercy forgive me
and may  Krishna bless us all.
