न च स्म वृद्धाः बालानाम् प्रेतकार्याणि कुर्वतेll
सर्वं मुदितमेवासीत्सर्वो धर्मपरोऽभवत्।
राममेवानुपश्यन्तो नाभ्यहिंसन्परस्परं।
आसन्वर्षसहस्राणि तथ पुत्रसहस्रिणः।
निरामया विशोकास्च रामे राज्यं प्रशासति।
रामो रामो राम इति प्रजानामभवत् कथाः।
रामभूतं जगदभूत् रामे राज्यं प्रशासति
श्रीमद्वाल्मीकिरामायणे उपसंहारश्लोकेभ्यः

śrīmadvālmīkirāmāyaṇe upasaṁhāraślokebhyaḥ
Today is Deepavali. Many legends are attached to this national celebration. Killing of Narkaasura is one of them. It is also believed that when Rama came back to Ayodhya in all glory after his sojourn in the woods for fourteen years, the affectionate subjects decorated the whole kingdom with lights to herald the arrival of the greatest hero of all times.
To wish all my friends a happy Deepavali I quote below the extracts from Vaalmikiraamayanam describing the long saga of life of welfare enjoyed by the people of our country when Rama was Ruling.
"There were no thieves. No untoward incidents happened in the lives of any of the subjects. There arose no occasion for an elderly person to perform the last rites of small children. Happiness was everywhere. There was no aberration from virtues. Taking Rama as the role model no one could even think of being acrimonious to others. People lived for thousand years with thousands of pro genies, all without illness and without any reason to be unhappy. The talks among the subjects was always in praise of the one and only Rama. Thus the entire world became the embodiment of the greatest of the great, Rama."
No honour or celebration can be superfluous when it is in the name of Rama. Rama is above any caste creed or religion and is for the entire universe.
