मान्धाता च महीपतिः कृतयुगालङ्कारभुतो गतः

māndhātā ca mahīpatiḥ kṛtayugālaṅkārabhuto gataḥ
seturyena mahodadhau viracitaḥ kvāsau daśāsyāntakaḥ||
anye cāpi yudhiṣṭhiraprabhṛtayo yātā divaṁ bhūpate
nekenāpi samaṁ gatā vasumatī muñja tvayā yāsyati||
bhallāladevakṛte bhojaprabandhe||

The above slokam is from Bhojaprabandham or Ballaladeva..

The work is on the life and activities of King Bhoja of Dhara, who. according to some legends was the patron and friend of poet Kalidasa..

The father of Prince Bhoja, had left the kingdom to his own brother Munja and had died lleaving Bhoja under the protection of Munja, the uncle..

The prince was brilliant and popular and it was predicted that he would become the kng in due course.. This made Munja jealous and he wanted to ensure that Bhoja was put to death.. The mission of assassination of Bhoja was given to a Vassal Vatsaraja..

The people of the kingdom, when they came across the news of the planned assassination became restless. Vatsaraja, although he took away the prince to a place where it was decided to behead the young boy, could not brace himself to do that.. While in that state of captivity, the prince had written a message to his uncle and handed over the same to his own assassin.

Vatsaraj restored the prince to a secred place.. made an effigy of the cut head of the prince and presented it to the king Muncha

Then the king enquired Vatsaraja what the prince told him while he was dying

The above slokam is given as the statement of Bhoja

Oh King Munja,

The valorous king of the Kritayuga, Mandatha, who ruled over the whole earth and fought many battless in the three worlds, finally left this earth overcome by the vagaries of time.

The great enemy and slayer of the ten headed demon Ravana.. prince Rama, who created an imposing bridge across the ocean (sethu) too left this earth in due time

Other great kings like Yudhistira have left for permanent abode after taking leave of this earth..

But the earth has not accompanied any of them..She remains intact.. Perhaps she will come with you when you depart?

Of course, Bhoja survived many vicissitudes and went on to rule the earth for many years..

But the message he delivered to his uncle is for all to see..

Too much avarice and tendency to grab without considering the morality of the action is not going to do anyone any good.. Everyone has to leave this earth ultimately, leaving behind all that he possessed..
