उपार्जितानां वित्तानां त्याग एव हि रक्षणम्।

तडागोदरसंस्थानां परवाहं इवाम्भसाम्॥

चाणक्य

upārjitānāṁ vittānāṁ tyāga eva hi rakṣaṇam|

taḍāgodarasaṁsthānāṁ paravāhaṁ ivāmbhasām||

The only way to protect the money and wealth earned through a lot of exertion is to spend it or apply it wisely and optimally. 

The water collected in a lake can be kept clean and fresh only if water is allowed to flow out too, to match the inflow of water..

Of course, letting too much of water flow out when too little water is flowing in, would drain the lake dry.. Similarly spending money in a wayward fashion without watching the inflow of cash is just suicidal.. And accumulating either water or wealth without spending would make either of them stale and stagnant. 

ഉപാര്‍ജിതാനാം വിത്താനാം ത്യാഗ ഏവ ഹി രക്ഷണം।

തഡാഗോദരസംസ്ഥാനാം പരവാഹം ഇവാംഭസാം ॥

ചാണക്യന്‍

വളരെയധികം പണിയെടുത്ത്‌ സമ്പാദിച്ചു കൂട്ടുന്ന പണത്തെ സുരക്ഷിതമാക്കാനുള്ള മാര്‍ഗ്ഗം മിതത്ത്വത്തോടും ദിശാബോധത്തോടും ഉള്ള ചിലവാക്കല്‍ ഒന്ന് മാത്രമാണ്. അത് നല്ല കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ആവണം 

തടാകത്തില്‍ നിറയുന്ന വെള്ളം ശുദ്ധവും ഉപയോഗയോഗ്യവും ആയി തുടരണമെങ്കില്‍, വെള്ളം നിറയുന്നതിന്നനുസരിച്ചു തോടുകളും കൈവഴികളും വെട്ടി അവയിലൂടെ പഴയ വെള്ളം പുറത്തേക്ക് ഒഴുക്കിക്കൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കണം
