न तथा रिपुर्न शस्त्रं नाग्निर्न विषं न दारुणो व्याधिः।
परितापयति पुरुषं यथा कटुकभाषिणी वाणी॥
सुभाषितसाहस्री
na tathā ripurna śastraṁ nāgnirna viṣaṁ na dāruṇo vyādhiḥ|
paritāpayati puruṣaṁ yathā kaṭukabhāṣiṇī vāṇī||
subhāṣitasāhasrī
Not the enemies
Nor the weapons
Nor the fire
Not even poison
or a serious disease
can ever torment a person
with the same intensity
and cause agony that would equal
the injury caused by cruel words.
