But then exception proves the rule.

In the earlier stanza Bhattathiri was explaining how sweetly obsessed was the Mother Lakshmi for the incessant company of Her lord and master Guruvayurappan and hence even if she was invited by her own devotees seeking  her company, she would visit them only for a limited time and disappear unnoticed to romp home to her place in the heart of the blessed lord.  Now, the great poet goes on to make exception to this rule  by saying that when the seeker after wealth is a staunch devotee of Guruvayurappan, Lakshmi would never leave such a devotee because of her absolute commitment to the Lotus feet of the Lord.
"Guruvayurappa, there is another evidence for the theory that your consort Lakshmi who is the source for all wealth and prosperity, never stays in the company even of her staunch devotees because She is obsessed with the everlasting company of your and could not stay away from you for extended periods. You know there is another class of devotees who remain always in deep contemplation of your lotus feet in meditation and are always vocal in singing your praise.  In the case of such committed devotees of your, she presumes that your order is that they should remain in material comfort always and so Lakshmi never fails to cater to their needs.. as a mark of deep commitment to your desires. "
So it is evident that at least in the case of Guruvayurappan, we can get things done better by trying to influence the master of the house rather than the real financial controller.  Of course this is a rare exception.  But then exception proves the rule.
