तथापि त्वं स्नेहं मयि निरुपमं यत्प्रकुरुषे
कुपुत्रो जायेत क्वचिदपि कुमाता न भवति .
आदि शङ्कर भगवत्पादाः देव्यपराथ क्षमापण स्तोत्रे
tathaapi tvam sneham mayi nirupamam yatprakurushe
kuputro jaayet kvachidapi kumaathaa na bhavati.

"Mother, I am not faithful, grateful, affectionate or dutiful .. I do not ever care to show any respect, affection, or concern for you..
But still, you shower your unconditional and incomparable love and Grace ( Here in this stotram Shankara means the Divine mother..who is the concentrated essence of all motherhood) on me..
A son can becomes a bad son, and often becomes so, but there is never a bad mother.. "

Even a Sannyasi, who has abandoned the whole connections with the world, who is placed in our faith on an equal pedestal with God, for whom offering namaskarams to a deity is just optional, and who is to be offered pranams that too three times even if he is present in a temple, that is in preference to the deity who is offered only one pranam.. that Sannyasi is bound by duty that he should offer Sashtaanga namaskaram to his mother in the poorvaashramam..
(And strangely, the mother will have to offer pranams to the Son who is a Sannyasi in turn.. that is another thing..)
We may be able to give scholarly dissertations on any subject.. be it God or Politics, Economics or Taxation, Love or Romance, War or peace..
But no one can describe the mother..
A woman is great because she alone can be a mother..
We need have no other reason to worship a woman.

ഇത് ആദിശങ്കര ഭഗവത്പാദര്‍ ദേവ്യപരാധ ക്ഷമാപണ സ്തോത്രത്തില്‍ ജഗദീശ്വരിയെ അമ്മയായി കരുതിക്കൊണ്ടു പറയുന്നതാണ്.

ഒരു തര്‍ജ്ജിമ
അമ്മെ, അവിടുത്തോട്‌ യഥാര്‍ത്ഥത്തില്‍എനിക്ക് വിശ്വസ്തത ഇല്ല. കൃതജ്ഞതയും ഇല്ലേയില്ല. സ്നേഹവും അവിടുത്തെ കാര്യത്തില്‍ ചുമതലാബോധവും എനിക്ക് വേണ്ടയളവില്‍ ഉണ്ടെന്നു തോന്നുന്നില്ല.
ഞാന്‍ അമ്മ അര്‍ഹിക്കുന്ന ബഹുമാനവും, സ്നേഹവും കരുതലും ഒന്നും അവിടുത്തോട്‌ ഒരിക്കലും കാണിക്കുന്നില്ല.. കാണിക്കാന്‍ അശക്തനും ആണ്.
എന്നിരുന്നാലും എന്റെ അമ്മ എന്നില്‍ കലവറയില്ലാത്ത, ഉപാധികളോ തിരിച്ചുകിട്ടാനുള്ള പ്രതീക്ഷകളോ ഒന്നുമില്ലാത്ത കറകളഞ്ഞ സ്നേഹവും അനുഗ്രഹവും എന്നില്‍ എവിടെയും എപ്പോഴും ചൊരിഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കുന്ന. ( ഇവിടെ ശങ്കരന്‍ ജഗന്മാതാവായ ദേവിയെ ലോകത്തിലെ എല്ലാ മാതൃത്വത്തിന്റെയും മൂര്‍ത്തിമദ്ഭാവമായ ജഗന്മാതാവിനെ സ്വന്തം അമ്മയായി കരുതി നന്ദി പറയുകയാണ്‌. അവളല്ലേ എല്ലാ അമ്മമാരിലും കൂടി പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുന്നവള്‍?)
അമ്മെ എത്രയധികം ചീത്തയായ മക്കള്‍ ഉണ്ട്ടാവം. ഉണ്ട് ഉണ്ടാവും. പക്ഷെ ഒരു ചീത്ത അമ്മയും ഒരിക്കലും ഉണ്ടാവില്ല.

സര്‍വ്വസംഗപരിത്യാഗിയായ ഒരു സന്ന്യാസി, ലോകത്തിലെ എല്ലാ ബന്ധങ്ങളും ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു, ദൈവത്തിനു തുല്യമായ ഒരു നിലയില്‍ എത്തിച്ചേര്‍ന്ന ഒരു പരിവ്രാജകവര്യന്‍, ആണ് ഇതു പറയുന്നത് എന്നൂ ഓര്‍ക്കണം. ആ യതിവര്യനു ദൈവത്തെ നമസ്കരിക്കണമെന്ന് പോലും നിയമമില്ല. ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ ഒരു യതി എത്തിപ്പെട്ടാല്‍ നാം ആ സന്ന്യാസിവര്യനെ വന്ദിച്ച ശേഷം ദേവനെ തോഴുതാന്‍ മതിയാകും എന്നാണു ശാസ്ത്രം.
പക്ഷെ അങ്ങിനെയുള്ള വ്യക്തിപോലും
പൂര്‍വാശ്രമത്തിലെ മാതാവിനെ കണ്ടാല്‍ സാഷ്ടാംഗം നമസ്കരിക്കണം എന്നാണു വിധി.. അതാണ്‌ അമ്മ.
രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിലോ, സാമ്പത്തിക ശാസ്ത്രത്തിലോ മറ്റേതു വിഷയത്തിലോ ഉപന്യാസങ്ങളും പ്രബന്ധങ്ങളും അവതരിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ ആര്‍ക്കു വേണമെങ്കിലും കഴിയും. പക്ഷെ അമ്മ എന്ന പ്രതിഭാസത്തെ അവതരിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ ആര്‍ക്കു കഴിയും
സ്ത്രീ ഉയര്‍ന്നവളാണ്.
താരതമ്യം ചെയ്യാന്‍ പറ്റാത്ത വിധം ഉയര്‍ന്നവളാണ്.
എന്തെന്നാല്‍ അവള്‍ക്കു മാത്രമേ അമ്മ ആകാന്‍ പറ്റൂ
