There is nothing more cruel and unjust than differential taxation. Just because every country in the world is following this principle of taxation does not make it right.

By what right does the government force a person to part with a 1/3rd of his hard earned money? The basic premise of the existence of a government is the need for a body which would be able to provide for safety and security of its subjects. It is this duty that any Government has to fulfill first. Then if the government wants to go for ambitious plans of welfare governance, it can be understood, if not condoned.

Governments world over have forgotten this basic idea. They have neglected security and have failed in providing even a rudimentary sense of safety to the citizens. In democracies, by giving benefits to some forms of united interest groups, the politicians are able to get into positions of power, and have their way. Once they get into power, they bend rules so that only those interest groups will be benefited. The silent and the unorganized will be made to suffer.

Everywhere the loser it the hardworking middle class salaried employee. He is the one who will get only enough for his day to day existence. He is the Somalika of your story. You and I are the Somalikas here. We try to find ways in which we can extend this false sense of security we have right now into the future

The system (or fate) will somehow see to it that we all will have to work and work till the day of our death. There is no retirement or relaxation for the men of ability in society. It is like Sachin Tendulkar going to bat in any game. We expect him to get a century everytime. There is no sympathy towards him.

Take the case of a doctor, he has to compete with at least a lakh of students to get admission to a medical college in India. Then he has to work really really hard to finish those five years in medical college with good grades. Then he has to fight politicians and other cunning parties to get a seat in a government college to get a seat for PG. After that since there are very limited number of seats for still higher studies and specializations, he has to go to some foreign country. Later if he comes back to India, the government will force him to serve in rural areas with no funds or facilities. How can one blame him, if he doesn't wish to serve in government hospitals? He would prefer to be in a private hospital. Then he makes a load of money, may be a reward for his hard work for the previous 10 years. Then what happens, he makes some foolish investments, and loses his money to scoundrels (Total4u is an example). If he keeps the money in his house, some robber will come and harm his life and take away his money. So he puts the money in bank.

Now comes the taxman, he find faults with the doctor's accounts (some of the rules are so convoluted that a taxman can if he so intends, find fault with any accounting system) The taxman will fix an amount equal to or sometime even greater that what the poor doctor has earned till now. (The tax bracket is 30% and if the penalty is 300% of the evaded tax, the tax after penalty will be 1.2 times the original income.) Tell me is this not just plain day-light robbery? If someone calls the taxman a legitimized burgler, will it be so wrong?

There is no glory in this type of taxation. The pleasure the taxman gets is the pleasure a bully gets in teasing the weak and the meek.

Since you are a taxman yourself, you may feel offended. It is not my intention to offend you or your profession. What I am trying to say here is that, you are an extremely sincere worker, and sometimes I have seen that your sincerity to work leaves you blind to some facts. While you squeeze the doctor, or an engineer and extract the last ruppee out of him for the department, you must remember where that squeezed money is going. If you will take a moment to realise that the money goes in the pockets of Chidambaram, Yedurappa or A Raja, you will not squeeze that hard, You muscles are bound to relax...

Bhattathiri, here describes the tortuous path of action and path of knowledge.  "Guruvayurappa,  some attain the eligiblility to follow the path of knowledge or bhakthi treading the most difficult path of self-control to attain the purity of mind.  What is the use of it?  Some others apply the test of objectiveness to the path to god, and after a very difficult lifestyle of logic and literature, passing through various lifecycles, reach emancipation, though the knowledge gained may not be absolute. "
The implication by the poet is that if one develops selfless love for Krishna, the above tortuous paths may not be necessary.  He simply reached the lotus feet of Krishna through the green channel of love, so easily. Give yourself unto Krishna and the rest is His lookout.

perhaps, the Incometax Departments world over have been trained by this deity

tasmānna śocāmi na vismayo me yadasmadīyaṁ na hi tat pareṣām||
viṣṇuśarmaṇaḥ pañcatantre  mitrasaṁprāptau

A quote from Vishnusharma's panchatantram.
"A man comes by wealth to the exact limit to which fate has ordained.
Even Gods cannot make any variation in this account.
Therefore, I am neither sad, nor surprised by the fact that what is ours alone is ours and what is ordained to be belonging to others will go to them."

There is an interesting story  in Panchatantram, to illustrate this idea
There lived in a town, a weaver named Somilaka.  He was an expert in his field and created thin and fancy attire for the king of the land. But as his luck would have it, he could never earn more money that what would be sufficient for the day to day existence of his family.  Meanwhile, many weavers lived in the same town, with lesser skill and lesser quality of output but had become rich in their profession.  Somilaka  thought he should migrate to some alien land temporarily to earn more money.  When his wife heard of the idea, she tried to dissuade him saying,  "My lord, the idea that you can earn money if you shift to a foreign land is only illusory.  It is only according to your own Karma that you earn.. If you do not deserve to earn through your earlier good deeds, you will not earn it.  Even if you happen to earn money  it will be taken away from you in a jiffy.
A mother cow and a calf identify each other even in a great crowd.. similarly, the money and the lucky one also seek out one another.  So please continue with your nice job here itself and let us be contended with what we have."

Somilaka would not  listen. He replied.  " It is foolish to assume that wealth will come to  you  even if you remain without proper action at some obscure corner of the world.  The wealth is there for the man with enterprise.  It is not for one who submits to fate. So my foreign trip is decided. "

Accordingly, he migrated to Vardamanapuram and after toiling for three years earned three hundred gold coins and started back to his own town.  At the fall of night en route, he had to cross a forest and  to escape attack from  wild animals or thugs, he climbed and perched atop a huge banyan tree.  Inadvertently he slept.

In his dream, he saw two persons, of frightful forms talking to one another. (Maybe, they were the God of death and Fate, Yama and his assistant.. ) One was asking the other, "Sir, , you know that according to fate Somilaka could not have more money that required for his bare sustenance.  But you have given him three hundred gold coins in extra?"  The other replied." My Lord,  Be it so, I cannot deny the wages of a person who has earned it with the sweat of his brow.  But the decision as to whether he should enjoy the fruits of that earning is with you..may you be pleased to take proper action"
Somilaka woke up and searched  his money –bag.  It was empty.
Somilaka was very sad.
But he would not like to meet his family and friends without money.

So once again he went back to the city, stayed there doing business for one year  more and earned five hundred gold coins this time.  He started for his own town once again.  This time even as the night fell, he did not stop in the forest but carefully traced his steps  home in great haste.  This time also, the two imposing persons, stood on his way and  started talking to one another. The first one again asked the second why  the weaver was allowed to earn five hundred gold coins when his fate was that  he should not have anything more that sufficient for his daily existence.
The second one replied that Somilaka was rewarded for his toil, but  the Lord of Fate had the choice to act.  At this juncture, Somilaka searched for his purse, and to his dismay, he found it empty.
Desperate,  Somilaka prepared a rope of darba grass, and tied it to a tree and prepared commit suicide by hanging himself .
Then he heard a voice from the skies.."Somilaka, don't  be so hasty.  It is your fate that you cannot earn in excess of your needs, and  it is my duty to divest you of whatever you have in excess
( I think the Incometax Departments world over have taken training from this deity, and improvised on the idea ...).
"However", the deity said, " since you had an audience with me, you can ask for a boon from me"
Somilaka requested  the capacity for   earning more as a boon.
The deity quipped , " You know fully well that you cannot keep your savings.  Still you ask for money. Why so?"

Somilaka answered." I want money, because I  want to be recognized as a man of immense wealth, even if I cannot enjoy its fruits.  Even a stingy, mean and ignoble fellow is respected in this world if he has some money.  Everything other than money will take the back seat."

everything else declines, but lust alone gets stronger

This is a very realistic statement on human nature as narrated in Panchatanatram, a classic in Sanskrit literatue.

"As one gets older, his hairs become grey, his teeth decay, The eyesight get fogged and the hearing becomes low.  But even as the age advances, one's carnal desires and avarice get younger and younger... he yearns for such satisfaction more intensely."
Shankara ehoes the same feeling when he remarks..." tadapi na munchatyaashaapindam"... however emaciated one is, his desires never recede.   Lust grows while other faculties wane

while following up His view propounded in the earlier slokam, NarayanaBhattathiri continues to reiterate the fact that it would be easier to reach the sublime state of unification with guruvayurappan through devotion  made sweet by love rather that through the patch of action (sankhyam) or through  acquiring very intricat knoledge.
He says " My  Guruvayurappa, the master of the whole universe,  they call it Karmayoga the actions of a person who performs his spiritual and temporal duties without any desire for good results or personal benefit..True, on can reach you through this path but the progress in that long path will be conuming huge time spans and to reach such a mental state of detachment itself can be quite difficult. Similarly The path of knowledge which can also lead one to your Lotus feet requires concerted and huge efforts for infinitely long periods before reaching the destination, you the black child.  But  when a mind is devoted to you and starts oozing love for you, you would have already become slave of that mind.'
It is very easy to tie Krishna with love.

Apareekshithakaarakam

Apareekshithakaarakam

One of the five subjects dealt with in the Indian Classic, Panchatantram of Vishnusharma, is Apareekshithakaarakam, or excecuting and idea without proper understanding and spadework.

Once in the city of Pataliputra, there lived a pious businessman(chettiar or shreshti) named Manibhadra. He was doing well in his business and also in life in general but suddenly some misfortune befell him and he was reduced to abject poverty and want. Indeed, for a person who was affluent, to face a state of poverty was worse than death.. and he spent days and nights in the company of nagging thoughts about his misfortune. One day he was so depressed that he decided he would put an end to all his suffering by opting to die the next day. Somehow he slid into a sleep with these painful thoughts. It would appear that the goddess of fate was not entirely cruel. In his sleep he dreamt that the huge wealth Padmanidhi (one of the treasures of Lakshmi), itself had come to him and had informed that She was going to visit him disguised as a Buddhistic Monk, and that if Manibhadra hit the monk on his tonsured head with a heavy stick , the monk would solidify into gold and with that the businessman’s sufferings would be over.
Manibhadra was skeptical about the dream, but anyway he decided to postpone his attempts at suicide by a day. Meanwhile Manibhadra's wife had asked the local barber to pay them a visit in the morning to help her with manicuring her finger and toe nails, cutting and polishing them. The barber was present in the house right in the morning, armed with his knife and scissors.

Almost simultaneously a Buddhist monk with shiny tonsured head also appeared at the gate, as if making Manibhadra's dream come true. As directed in the dreams, Manibhadra received the Monk with a cracking hit with a heavy stick on the tonsured head of the ascetic. And true to the dream , the monk metamorphosed into a golden statue

The wily barber, while engaged in his duty with the fingernails of the lady of the house did not fail to notice the fact that the treatment given to the shiny pate of the Buddhist monk yielded very definite and positive and miraculous results for the chettiar, Manibhadra. A very ambitious plan was took shape in the barber's brain immediately. He was sure that if one monk could do this much of favour in response to a hit on the head, how much he could gain by using the services of a couple of dozens of monks and equal number of sturdy sticks if necessary, for this purpose.

So the barber went home, had a bath and wearing simple clothes to announce his piousness he made a beeline to the local Buddhist monastery, and invited all the monks available there for a feast in his house. The preference was definitely to the completely and very recently tonsured heads. The monks were reluctant initially. He announced that he was going to serve many sweets and ghee in plenty. In addition he tempted them by stating that his house was stocked with silken clothes to cover the books, and writing material and palm leaves were available in plenty to be distributed to the holy guests.

The gift of the gab of the barber (usually barbers are noted for that) ultimately proved irresistible and the innocent monks went in a procession to the barber’s house.
By that time the barber was ready for them. He had cut heavy branches of some tough trees and had got them all polished to great shine, and kept them ready for effective use. The monks had to enter the house one by one and just behind the door, the barber was standing ready to deliver the hit like a thunderbolt on the shining pates of the monks one by one. His hit was heaviest on the head of the first monk and the Swami left for his heavenly abode without any delay , leaving behind a cracked skull oozing out a rivulet of blood. However no gold was forthcoming.

The host did not give up with his first attempt . He was very enterprising and let in all the monks one by one with a welcome hit on their hapless pates. Some fell unconscious and some began to moan and cry. Sensing the danger, the barber closed his door and was waiting for a long time to see the monks turning into gold.
Nothing happened but the pathetic cry of the holy men brought the attention of the public and the denizens of law forced themselves into the barber’s house to see the misery of the monks. The barber was immediately arrested and taken to the local magistrate. There he told the Hon’ble Court that he had seen a monk getting transformed to gold by a welcome his on the head delivered by the Chettiar Manibhadra and he had only followed the clue.

The chettiar was summoned and he reported truthfully all that happened. The barber had only seen a part of the process and in his foolishness killed or maimed so many holy men.

In e place of gold, gallows waited on the barber.

The bottom line is.. "do not imitate others without properly understanding what exactly they are doing.

"Guruvaayurappa, the devotion and affection for you evokes the most sublime experiences in the mind of people who follow the path of devotion or Bhakthi. It is for this reason that the path of devotion expounded by the greats like Vyasa, Narada and other great yogins is  extolled as far superior to the path of action (Karmayoga) and path of knowledge (jnana yoga) which are also two other paths availble to reach you.  You the sweet Lord of Lakshmi,  the only rasa (or sublime quality) that is present in you is beauty at its peak and your devotees have no difficulty ever in reaching you and be in union with you through that devotion"
The Blessed Lord has dealt with in Gita about the three yogas, bhakthi, jnana and karma... for an impartial observer it would be apparent that Krishna has given all the three choices equal importance in their efficacy to lead us to Him.  But Karma and Jnaana are difficult exercises and maybe even difficult to understand and practice for the layman who is not properly educated or initiated.  But Bhakthi is emotional... the very sight of the resplendent form of the Black gem does wonders to the existence of the devotees..and like a magnet attracting a piece of iron, forcibly draws ones heart to the flautist of Brindaban and make him remain for ever in absolute devotion.  May be, like a flower eager to attract the bees that  Naughty Boy showcases all the beauty and benevolence in his enthusiasm to ensure that there is no difficulty for the devotees to find the path to Him.
May the black beauty of that formless one  attract us also.

People indulge in underlining the benefits of parsing the Lord through various stotras.  But it would appear that by chanting Narayaneeyam we will get only one thing..

 We will get Krishna..
One need read this only if he is satisfied with that.

In the previous stanzas  Bhattathiri described the beauty of Guruvayurappan and this stanza is composed to explain what that concentrated beauty does to the existence of that Black Urchin's faithful followers.
"Such beauty of yours, my Guruvayurappa, is the eternal source for fresh life-giving ambrosia for us.  It is the elixir prepared with its sole ingredient consisting of the Supreme Soul, you the Parabhrahman.  That beautiful form forces our hearts to miss its beats, when we hear it being praised.  It prompts us to jump in supplication to you, it makes our minds intoxicated with devotion to you, it forces our hairs to stand erect in extreme ecstasy.  And that beautiful form, when seen by our eyes makes them eternal sources of rivers of sweet tears oozing out of our insatiable love for you."

We can see that the poet is in ecstasy beyond words, language and syntax, while composing these slokas in praise of Guruvayurappan.. We need not go for the language or meaning here.. If a very tiny speck of affection in comparison to the solidified love that Bhattathiri had for that Sorcerer with Flute, crosses our mind for a split second, then alone our lives have any meaning.

A very interesting statement by Lord Hanuman when He meets Raavaneswara, the demon king of Lanka for the first time  as narrated in Sundarakaandam of Srimad Vaalmikiraamayanam
" What an imposing carriage, what an imperturbable courage, what an awfu size of  body, what a lustre,  the Lord of Rakshasa is indeed a perfectly created personality.  Had his tendency to sin at any cost been not so prominent in his character, this god-like leader of rakshasaas would have been in such an exalted position where he could act as the protector of the heaven with its suzerain, the Indra."

The statement is significant from various angles.
(1)  Aanajaneyaswamy is indeed one of the strongest and wisest living beings ever. Still he has the magnanimity to appreciate greatness even when it is manifested in an avowed enemy.
(2)  The Lord, who knows the past, present and the future is fully aware that, in spite or all the strength and charisma, Ravaneswara had alreday invited death for himself through his sinful activities, and the great fall was imminent.
(3)  The Lord Hanuman delivers a warning to the world that however strong and well-placed one is, if he deviates from the path of righteousness and indulges in sinful activities, nemesis will overtake him and nothing can save him.

What a fall!..
Even though he is a  Raskasa Ravana is  being referred to as Iswara, a title befitting only Lord Siva, Lord Nandi, Lord Sani etc.  Even such a person cannot go scot-free after breaking the Dharama.

But then exception proves the rule.

ye tvaddhyānaguṇānukīrtanarāasaktā hi bhaktā janāḥ
teṣveṣā vasati sthiraiva dayitaprastāva dattādarā|| 5||
śrīmannārāyaṇīyaṁ daśakaṁ||2||

In the earlier stanza Bhattathiri was explaining how sweetly obsessed was the Mother Lakshmi for the incessant company of Her lord and master Guruvayurappan and hence even if she was invited by her own devotees seeking  her company, she would visit them only for a limited time and disappear unnoticed to romp home to her place in the heart of the blessed lord.  Now, the great poet goes on to make exception to this rule  by saying that when the seeker after wealth is a staunch devotee of Guruvayurappan, Lakshmi would never leave such a devotee because of her absolute commitment to the Lotus feet of the Lord.
"Guruvayurappa, there is another evidence for the theory that your consort Lakshmi who is the source for all wealth and prosperity, never stays in the company even of her staunch devotees because She is obsessed with the everlasting company of your and could not stay away from you for extended periods. You know there is another class of devotees who remain always in deep contemplation of your lotus feet in meditation and are always vocal in singing your praise.  In the case of such committed devotees of your, she presumes that your order is that they should remain in material comfort always and so Lakshmi never fails to cater to their needs.. as a mark of deep commitment to your desires. "
So it is evident that at least in the case of Guruvayurappan, we can get things done better by trying to influence the master of the house rather than the real financial controller.  Of course this is a rare exception.  But then exception proves the rule.

Gurvaayuurappa,  your consort, the Goddes of Welath Lakshi who is fullly aware of the greatness of your body and she is so much attached to you that she would not, if possible, leave you even for the minutest moment. This infatuation of Hers to your enticing form has earned the quality of fickleness.  A staunch bhaktha of Lakshmi will have all the welath and welfare only when she is also keeping company with the devotee.  But, maybe, to show her faithfluness to her devotees she may live with them on a visit for a limited number of time. But she is always eager to come back and permanently near your heart.  For this action she does not even been admonished as the most fickle mother.
The solution for the devotee is simple.  Catch hold of that dark fellow. He is so devoted to his own children that He will accompany you to wherever you want.  Lakshmi simply will follow even without being invited..

In the second chapter of Raghuvamsam, King Dileepa is going to forest to do service to Nandini, the daughter of Kamadhenu, the Divine Cow,  He was serving her with all devotion But as luck would have it somewhere is the forest a lion sprang upon the Divine Cow with murderous intention.  The alerted king tried to  strike down the lion with an arrow by as if by magic, he could not move his hands.  The lion says that He is one of the members of the expert servants of Shiva specially deployed to guard the forest and so he could not attack him against the powers of shiva and shakthi..  He explains the backgroud for posting such guadrd.
"Once a wild elephant whose skin was itching, just rubbed his body on the bark of a lovely tree in this forest.  The merciful mother Parvathi, when she visited the forest and saw the darling tree shedding her juices like blood through the wounds caused by the elephant, was so overwhelmed with sorrow and she cried as if she was seeing hew own darling  son the Valorous commander-in-chief of the army of Gods, Subrahmanya was shedding blood from wounds suffered in the battles with the demons."
The Lion goes on to explain that he was depolyed to guard the forest from such mishaps and so on

The crucial point to note that even Parvathi loved Nature and the Plants and trees in the forest as herown children. The poachers and destroyers of the forest, have you ever heard of it.  Kalidasa was not only a poet but also a jnani.. He would not write a lie about what the Divine Mother spoke or felt.

What a lesson in humility

Sri Hanumaan after his heroic exploits in jumping over the sea for a distance of 100 yojanas and having met Divine Mother Sita in Ashokavana delivers the anguliyam (ring)  and message from Rama to Her and reassures her that the big army of Sugriva along with the brothers Rama and Laksmana would come to Lanka and vanquish Ravana.  While taking leave of her he makes this submission to the Mother.
" Among the servants of Sugriva, there are some who are equal to  me and many who are superior to me in valour and resourcefulness. There is no one inferior to me there. If a fellow like me can jump the ocean and be present before you, Mother, will it be a difficult task for my friends and colleagues who are all either equal to me or superior to me.  Take note of the fact, Mother, that usually only the most inferior servant is sent as a messenger and not the really great ones"

What a lesson in humility.  All world knows that there is no greater living being was ever born to equal Lord Aanjaneya.  With limited resources and knowledge and abilities we all try to brag and show off and tend to be arrogant.  Will we ever learn...even if it is from a monkey?

You Guruvayurappa, You, the divine Godhead who manifest yourself as being  spread in everything (Vishnu),
You the source-head of all valued things(Vibhu),
Your form  which has taken shape  on this earth in that concentration of love and mercy, are the one thing which is the most adorable among that have  to be cherished and worshipped in the three worlds,
You are the most enchanting one amongst all that are divinely beautiful,
which is the most resplendent amongst all that shines forth in this universe,
which is sweeter that all the sweet things that human beings could conceive of and put together,
which is cute among the cutest things
and
which is the greatest of the wonders amongst all that are wonderful  that simply attract and holds in its sweet but firm embrace  all those who happen to contemplate on it.

Yes, when a devotee is intoxicated with the ambrosia of Krishna, he goes on rambling without exactly knowing what he wants to say or how he should say it.. it is bliss, pure and complete.
The greatest of the realized souls have stopped dumbstruck in the presence of that solid black thing,,,one may call it Krishna.

.May that butter-thief Krishna bless us.

Krishna is the only  only subject of anyone's Namaskaram.. May Krishna the Jagatguru bless us..
That fellow who went as a thief in search of  butter!
He was caught red handed by a gopi(cowherd woman) while He was inspecting the contents of a Pot full of butter  hanging from the ceiling,  having entered her house in darkness, in the company of a set of equally naughty friends,Since the pot was placed high above the black rogue was  standing on the back of some of his friends to reach the pot .
The gopi asked, "who are you boy.?."
Krishna  replied, "I am the younger brother of balarama (to implicate the elder brother),"

what are you searching for,? asked the gopi...
"I am searching for a calf which is missing since the evening"..
"Why do you search for it in the pot of butter?, asked the gopi,   "I searched for the calf everywhere else but could not find him, so I thought he is hiding in your butterpot" .
"Did you find the calf.?"..was the next question..
and Krishna replied," unfortunately not".
then why are you waiting here? , came the question from the gopi and
Krishnas reply was ," Madam, I was waiting for you to inform you before I leave" ,
and in the midst of the conversation Krisna bolted  like a lightning and disappeared.
May  that butter-thief Krishna bless us.

Guruvaayoorappa, I take refuge in deep  contemplation of your divine form which has four arms adorned with keyoora (the shoulder ornament) angada (upper arms shields) and bracelets and bangles all of gold studded with precious gems.  You carry the Conch, discus, mace and a lotus with a long stem on these hands.  You wear a beautiful yellow silk dress which is kept in place by an attractive golden hip-belt and the beauty of such adornments are not amenable to description by words.. your beauty is so sublime.

The two stanzas, this and the previous one give a very heartening and accurate description of Guruvayurappan.. if one tries to recall with love the form of this young dark lad  seated  in his heart, the form will definitely manifest there, and in time the divine boy may start His dance.

See how a devoted soul  describes the formless shapeless infinite bliss called Krishna.

Oh Lord of the abode of Wind, Guruvaayurappa, the slayer of the demon Mura,   you are the greatest source of all that is exalted ( bhagavaan),    and the name bhagavaan suits you the most because, (1) the godliness of all the  gods right from Shankara is dependent on you and subservient to you,
(2)  Your valour and splendour supercede the greatest sources of energy like the sun and the fire, but you remain without any attachment to anything..you being the suddhasattwa,  and your fame is unblemished and stands above all others put together and even the sages who have no attachment to anything in the universe would praise you
 (3) The goddess of wealth, Lakshmi is so much in love with you that she will never take leave of  your exalted body and still  but nobody would ever say that you are attached to any type of wealth.

It is said that  Aiswaryasya samagrasya veeryasya yasasah shriyah, jnaanavijnaanayoschaiva shannaam bhaga itiiranaa... meaning  that bhaga  is the bundle of  the six qualities, godliness, valour,  blemishless fame, immense wealth,  knowledge and  detachment
Guruvayurappan is beyond comparison in possession of such great qualities..therefore the name Bhagavan suits Him eminently.

sekharipuram kuthirayottam

This is the part of the nine days Brahmotsavam at Lakminarayananswamy Temple at  Sekharipuram Palakkad. The youth carry the Kuthiravahanam ( the wooden mount in the shape of a horse) with Sudarsana Chakrathazhavaar (representing the Lord Laksminarayanaswamy) atop  along the five streets of the village covering the entire  procession through short stints of running forward and retracing  the steps and again starting from the point they had stopped in the former lap.   The function comes on  the eve of the main Ratholsavam falling on the next day.   Even though the runners will be mostly youngsters  all the people in the agraharam irrespective of age participate enthusiastically encouraging the participants.
