सतां मतमतिक्रम्य योऽसतां सेवते मतम्।
शोचन्ते व्यसने तस्य सुहृदो न चिरादिव॥
योऽसत्सेवी वृथाऽऽचारः न श्रोता सुहृदां सताम्।
परान् वृणीते स्वान् द्वेष्टि तं श्री त्यजति भारत॥
महाभारते उद्योग पर्वे १११-२७-२९
satāṁ matamatikramya yo'satāṁ sevate matam|
śocante vyasane tasya suhṛdo na cirādiva||
yo'satsevī vṛthā''cāraḥ na śrotā suhṛdāṁ satām|
parān vṛṇīte svān dveṣṭi taṁ śrī tyajati bhārata||

If a fellow just ignores and views with contempt the views and advises of noble persons and eagerly follows the path shown by evil minded fellows, then apart from suffering a lot of setbacks in life and falling victim to evil habits, he would push his friends too into deep trouble.
A person who is keen to serve bad and evil minded people and who is trying to follow the righteous rules of life only considering it as a wasteful exercise and without any sincerity or involvement, a person who refuses to listen to the views of sincere friends and well-wishers and tries to enjoy the company of enemies and at the same time feels enmity for his own kin would find in a condition where all his good fortune and affluence are lost. The goddess of wealth takes leave of him.
This is the advise received by Yudhistira, as seen in the Udyoga Parva of Mahabharatham.
സതാം മതമതിക്രമ്യ യോഽസതാം സേവതേ മതം।
ശോചന്തേ വ്യസനേ തസ്യ സുഹൃദോ ന ചിരാദിവ॥
യോഽസത്സേവീ വൃഥാഽഽചാരഃ ന ശ്രോതാ സുഹൃദാം സതാം।
പരാന് വൃണീതേ സ്വാന് ദ്വേഷ്ടി തം ശ്രീ ത്യജതി ഭാരത॥
മഹാഭാരതേ ഉദ്യോഗ പര്വേ ൧൧൧-൨൭-൨൯
ഒരു മനുഷ്യന് വിവരവും വിവേകവും ഉള്ള ആളുകളുടെ അഭിപ്രായങ്ങളും ഉപദേശങ്ങളും അവജ്ഞയോടും ധിക്കാരത്തോടും തള്ളിക്കളയുകയും അതെ സമയം അവസരവാദികളുടെയും ദുഷ്ടന്മാരുടെയും ഉപദേശങ്ങള്ക്കനുസരിച്ച് തുള്ളിക്കളിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നത് പതിവാക്കിയിരിക്കുകയാനെങ്കില് അയാള് സ്വയം ചീത്ത സ്വഭാവങ്ങളുടെ പടുകുഴിയില് അകപ്പെടുക മാത്രമല്ല, കൂടെ നില്ക്കുന്ന സുഹൃത്തുക്കളേയും അതേ അപകടത്തിലേയ്ക്ക് ഉന്തി വിടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
ഒരാള് ദുഷ്ടന്മാരേയും അന്തഃസാര ശൂന്യന്മാരെയും കൂട്ട് പിടിക്കാന് കച്ചകെട്ടി പുറപ്പെടുകയും, ജീവിതത്തിലെ മഹത്തായ ആചാരങ്ങളോടും ചര്യകളോടും ഒരു താല്പര്യവും പ്രതിബദ്ധതയും ഇല്ലാതിരിക്കുകയും ആചാരങ്ങള് വെറും പൊള്ളയായ വഴിപാടുകള് പോലെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു എന്ന് വരുത്തുകയും മാത്രം ചെയ്യുകയും, അതേസമയം വിശ്വസ്തരായ സുഹൃത്തുക്കളുടെയം അഭ്യുദയകാംക്ഷികളുടെയും അഭിപ്രായങ്ങള് അവഗണിച്ചു ശത്രുക്കളുടെയും ദുഷ്ടന്മാരുടെയും കൂട്ട് തേടി സ്വന്തം ബന്ധുക്കളെ തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് മറുകണ്ടം ചാടുകയും ചെയ്യുകയാണെങ്കില് അയാള് എല്ലാ സ്വത്തും സൌഭാഗ്യവും നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട നിലയിലേയ്ക്ക് സ്വയം അധഃപതിക്കും. ഭാഗ്യദേവതയായ ശ്രീദേവി അയാളെ ദൂരെ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കും.
ഇത് മഹാഭാരതത്തില് ഉദ്യോഗ പര്വത്തില് യുധിഷ്ടിരന് ലഭിക്കുന്ന ഉപദേശം ആണ്.
