नासत्यवादिनः सख्यं न पुण्यं न यशो भुवि।
दृश्यते नापि कल्याणं कालकूटमिवाश्नतः॥
सुभाषितरत्नभाण्डागारे
nāsatyavādinaḥ sakhyaṁ na puṇyaṁ na yaśo bhuvi|
dṛśyate nāpi kalyāṇaṁ kālakūṭamivāśnataḥ||
subhāṣitaratnabhāṇḍāgāre
A person who tells lies, who does not desists from speaking untruth, is similar to a fellow who has consumed the deadly venom Kalakoota. In this world, he will never get any friendsip, he would not acquire any divine merit, he will never get praise and fame in his lifetime, and in general he will not be visited with welfare and peace in life.
(A great subhaashitam indeed, it is. It must have been true some time ago. However it would seem the statement itself is a great lie in the present society. The hallmark of successful leaders in the society of today are the capacity to tell something and act in a diametrically opposite manner, not thinking of being honest even in dreams, and the consummate skill in presenting lies as gospel truths. Of course, Mahatma Gandhi loved this couplet, it is said)

കൂസലില്ലാതെ കളവു പറയുന്ന ആള്, അസത്യം പറയുന്നതില് നിന്ന് പിന്മാറുവാന് മനസ്സില്ലാത്ത ആള്, കാളകൂടം എന്ന വിഷം കുടിച്ചവനെപ്പോലെയാണ്.
അയാള്ക്ക് ഭൂമിയില് ഒരു സൌഹൃദങ്ങളും ലഭിക്കില്ല. അയാളുടെ പുണ്യം എല്ലാം ക്ഷയിച്ചു പോകും അയാള്ക്ക് ഒരിക്കലും പേരും പെരുമയും ഉണ്ടാവില്ല. അയാളുടെ ജീവിതത്തില് നന്മയും സൌഖ്യവും ഇല്ലാതാവും
( ഒരു ഉദാത്തമായ സുഭാഷിതം. ഇത് പണ്ടെപ്പോഴോ സത്യം ആയിരുന്നിരിക്കാം. പക്ഷെ ഇന്നത്തെ പരിതസ്ഥിതിയില് ഈ പറയുന്നത് തന്നെ വലിയ അസത്യം ആണെന്ന് തോന്നാം. പറയുന്നതൊന്നു ചെയ്യുന്നത് വേറൊന്നു , ഉറക്കത്തില് പോലും സത്യം പറയില്ല, പിന്നെ അസത്യത്തെ എങ്ങിനെയെങ്കിലും സത്യമാക്കി അവതരിപ്പിക്കാനുള്ള വിരുത് ഈ ഗുണങ്ങള് ഉള്ളവരാണ് ഇന്നത്തെ സമൂഹത്തില് വിജയകാഹളം മുഴക്കിക്കൊണ്ട് വിലസുന്നത്.. മഹാത്മജിക്ക് ഈ ശ്ലോകം ഏറെ ഇഷ്ടമായിരുന്നു )
