Of course dissent with purohita is nothing new.
There is a Vedic story where Indra quarrelled with his purohita Brihaspati and dismissed him and appointed Visvarupa the son of Twashtaa as the priest.
Though a sura himself Visvaroopa had asura leanings on the mother's side and so he offered havirbhagam secretly to asuras while performing yajnas..
This made the enemies of Indra stronger.
Indra got the wind of it and killed visvaroopa. Thvastaa did Kriyas that made the Lord of asuras Vritra very strong and indra was defeated.
Ultimately to defeat Vritra Indra had to make Vajrayudha the thunderbolt from the backbone of sage Dadeechi who did sacrifice his life in the bargain.
So quarrelling with your own purohita can land you in deep trouble
