MONOMANIA

MONOMANIA ..... a pathological state of mind where a person who is mostly normal otherwise thinks up or broods over one particular object or happening.. and in that process loses almost all his faculties of clear thinking and action.( and his thinking process would resemble an old gramophone player whose needle is stuck on a particular part of the record and the sound is repeated). The mind for him is stagnant ,, and it has all the qualities of a pool with stagnant waters, which starts to stink, breed vermin and spread diseases.. This word is not much in circulation in the field of medicine as of now, but the disease is very much present.. I came across the word in a story by Somerset Maugham.. but understand that Balzac has gone to the extent of defining it.

We need not go far to find gentlemen, not so gentle, and gentle ladies, having this gift.. Most of us engaged  in social media   browsing with mad frenzy appear to have been blessed with that type of mind especially with reference to our own posts ..
