अल्पानामपि वस्तूनां संहतिः कार्यसाधिका।
तृणैर्गुणत्वमापन्नैः बध्यन्ते मत्तदन्तिनः॥

അല്പാനാമാപി വസ്തൂനാം സമ്ഹതിഃ കാര്യസാധികാ 
തൃണൈര്‍ഗുരുത്വമാപന്നൈഃ ബധ്യന്തേ മത്തദന്തിനഃ

even the most insignificant or trivial object, when a large collection of it is put together wisely can be of use even in attaining very huge and complicated objectives.. When strands of grass and spun together to form a thick rope, that rope is used to bind and keep in abeyance even an elephant in its full ruts..

Old age destroys the beauty and attractiveness of the body
Excessive attachment or covetousness drains one's courage
Death obviously takes away one's life
Jealousy simply takes away the sense of propriety and virtue
Extreme anger annihilates our wealth and affluence
Our character and conduct touches lowest levels when we serve bad bosses
Excessive lust and desire for sensual pleasures relieve us of any sense of shame
and
Misplaced pride can cost us everything that is worth possessing..

to be present in the present

गते शोको न कर्तव्यः भविष्यं नैव चिन्तयेत्।
वर्तमानेन कालेन वर्तयन्ति विचक्षणाः॥
॥सुभाषितं॥
gate śoko na kartavyaḥ bhaviṣyaṁ naiva cintayet|
vartamānena kālena vartayanti vicakṣaṇāḥ||
||subhāṣitaṁ||

ഗതേ ശോകോ ന കര്ത്തവ്യഃ ഭവിഷ്യം നൈവ ചിന്തയേത്
വര്ത്തമാനേന കാലേന വര്ത്തയന്തി വിചക്ഷണാ:
സുഭാഷിതം

One should not grieve on what has already happened in the past.. 
One need not be excessively worried about what is in store in future.
The intelligent and successful people live in the present moment

This does not in anyway mean that one should simply forget all that is past, nor that he should not learn lessons from the past.. 

But obsessive brooding over what has happened just to stay in complete misery for oneself and for all persons around him should be given up.

Likewise anxiety or worry for the future should be avoided but this does not be understood to imply that proper planning and care for a reasonably secure continuum in life should be ignored..

Deers flock  nicely with  other Deers
Cows share stables with other cows in great comfort
Horses gallop in the company of other horses
Idiotic and adamant people revel in the company of similar people
Men of wisdom seek the company of enlightened peers
Therefore,
sustained friendship can be kept only among people
with similar mindsets
and
placed in comparable environs
In fact so much of trouble in the society arises from flocking together donkeys, monkeys, horses and elephants all together..

constraints of time

अनेकशास्त्रं बहुवेदितव्यं अल्पश्च कालो बहवश्च विघ्नाः।
यत् सारभूतं तदुपासितव्यं हंसो यथा क्षीरमिवाम्बुमध्यात्॥
॥सुभाषितम्॥
anekaśāstraṁ bahuveditavyaṁ alpaśca kālo bahavaśca vighnāḥ|
yat sārabhūtaṁ tadupāsitavyaṁ haṁso yathā kṣīramivāmbumadhyāt||
||subhāṣitam||
There are many sciences to be learned, too many sources of knowledge to be tapped, and the time available for us is too small, and we face so many impediments in the pursuit of even in our small ways. Therefore, we have to learn the essence of such knowledge without any delay, just like the swan eating milk alone from huge quantities of water.
True, the capacity to select what we have to learn is far more important that the learning process itself..Knowledge, the product of the toil of human intellect over innumerable years, is stacked like a mountain.. and the girth of the mass of knowledge is swelling beyond imagination as we progress from exchange of information by word of mouth through manuscripts, printed volumes and the present electronic storage of data in verbal and visual forms..
We cannot try to read even a small portion of it even if we spent our whole lifetime just for that..So wisdom lies in selecting our favourite fields and focussing on the essentials.. because time is never a luxury.Sage Bharadwaja was obsessed with learning and when he was about to die, He begged Indra to extent his lifetime by one span so that he could complet his studies..Indra granted the extension once, then the second time, and also the third time... The studies were inconclusive..
When a petition for the fouth extension came, the Lord of Gods told the elderly sage, "Look sir, Are you not seeing those huge mountains? The knowledge to be gained is huge like them.. Now please see the four tiny heaps of sand before you.. These would be the knowledge you have gained till now, in comparison.. So even if I grant you innumerable extensions, your education will never be complete.. So let us stop it at this point."

simple love

simple love


यस्य त्वया व्रणविरोद्पणमिङ्गुदीनां

तैलं न्यषिच्यत मुखे कुशसूचिविद्दे।
श्यामाकमुष्ठिपरिवर्द्धितको जहाति
सोऽयम् न पुत्रकृतकः पदवीं मृगस्ते।

कालिदासमहाकवेः शाकुन्तले चतुर्थात् अङ्गात्

yasya tvayā vraṇavirodpaṇamiṅgudīnāṁ

tailaṁ nyaṣicyata mukhe kuśasūcividde|
śyāmākamuṣṭhiparivarddhitako jahāti
so'yam na putrakṛtakaḥ padavīṁ mṛgaste|

kālidāsamahākaveḥ śākuntale caturthāt aṅgāt
This is from a scene in abhijnaanashaakuntalam of Kalidasa..

Shakuntala and the hermitage of Kanva are preparing themselves for the inevitable departure of the pregnant Shakuntala to the palace of her husband Dushyanta..

The sage Kanva, the recluse foster father of the young girl could not help shedding tears of separations..

All inmates also silently bid her a tearful farewell..

Even the animals and plants of the hermitage could not brook the idea of this lovely girl leaving them..

A young deer, just stands before her blocking her way..


Kanva says
"Look at  this young deer who is refusing to move away from your path and let you depart..
When this young one got its lips injured through sharp darbha grasses while grazing, you would tend the injuries by smearing oil of ingudi with your soothing hands over the injuries.. Throughout this young one’s life, you would always feed him with green tender ears of Shyamak grass, and he has grown up eating that alone.. He was just like a son to you. How can he let you go?”
Kalidasas poignant depiction of love among all beings.. and especially those who live in the company of pristince nature in all innocence.. should send a great message.

We hardly love anyone to day…
We hardly care for plants and animals..
We can see the plants and animals only as source of food, nothing more..
This is the reason why there is only one Shakuntala, and there is only one Kalidasa
