We can understand fate without reference to any religion, belief or dogma.. we can call it chance or serendipity too..
But Karma is a concept based on religion, faith etc..
There is sufficient proof -- and we need not go anywhere else than just to analyse our own lives to prove it-- to show that most of the things in our life happen by chance which is nothing but operation of fate..
However we cannot prove Karma theory in absolute terms..
The theory of Karma was in vogue right from the start of human thought but the concept has remained unproved all the time..
So age has very little to do with Karma..
Karma theory is rather a lesson in ethics..
If vyasa said.. ParopakaraH punyaaya, Paapaaya parapeedanam..
परोपकारः पुण्याय पापाय परपीडनम् .
it is nice to trust in that..
Vyasa meant "doing good brings good returns, and harming others begets sins and destruction..."
I respect it as a social rule of ethics , but we have to trust in it without seeking for any proof..
That is all about Karma
