स्वाधीने माधुर्ये मधुराक्षर संहितेषु वाक्येषु।
किं नाम सत्त्ववन्तः पुरुषाः परुषाणि भाषन्ते॥
Neeti dwishastikaa
svādhīne mādhurye madhurākṣara saṃhiteṣu vākyeṣu।
kiṃ nāma sattvavantaḥ puruṣāḥ paruṣāṇi bhāṣante॥
Even though sensible and prudent persons are trained and having at their disposal sweet words, and possess fairly sweet disposition too, they often use cruel and harsh words.. It is very difficult to understand that.
(The poet implies that such behaviour should not come from great people)
मधुराक्षर sweet soft words संहितेषु filled with वाक्येषु sentences स्वाधीने सति when in control, when capable of using किं नाम why indeed सत्त्ववन्तः prudent and noble पुरुषाः persons परुषाणि harshm cruel वाक्याणि words भाषन्ते speak
സ്വാധീനേ മാധുര്യേ മധുരാക്ഷര സംഹിതേഷു വാക്യേഷു।
കിം നാമ സത്ത്വവന്തഃ പുരുഷാഃ പരുഷാണി ഭാഷന്തേ॥
വിവരവും അറിവും ഉള്ള ഇരുത്തം വന്ന വ്യക്തികള്‍ക്ക് മാധുര്യവും നന്മയും നിറഞ്ഞ വാക്കുകള്‍ പ്രയോഗിക്കാന്‍ നല്ലവണ്ണം അറിയാം. അവര്‍ ആത്യന്തികമായി നന്മയുള്ളവരും ആണ്. പക്ഷെ അത്തരം വ്യക്തികള് പോലും പലപ്പോഴും ക്രൂരവും കാഠിന്യം കൂടിയതും ആയ വാക്കുകള്‍ പ്രയോഗിക്കുന്നതായി കണ്ടു വരുന്നു. ഈ പെരുമാറ്റം മനസ്സിലാക്കാന്‍ വളരെ പ്രയാസമുണ്ട്. (കവി ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നത് അത്തരം മോശമായ പെരുമാറ്റം മഹദ് വ്യക്തികളുടെ ഭാഗത്ത് നിന്ന് ഒരിക്കലും ഉണ്ടാവരുത്
