broken fences, even though mended will never have the original looks or strength.

An interesting statement from Bhallaladeva of Varanasi, who wrote the history of King Bhoja, in his celebrated Bhojaprabandam.
" When one comes to know that he has contacted enmity with someone or that he has symptoms of a disease, he should destroy the enemy at that moment itself and take treatment and raze away all the symptoms of the disease without the slightest delay.  Even if the man is healthy and very strong, if the enemy or  the disease is given time to strengthen themselves,  later on they will defeat and destroy the person.

Prevention is better than cure, they say.  But in our life of conflicts we cannot help acquiring either enemies or diseases.  But once we know that a fellow is an enemy, it is meaningless to show kindness to him and tolerate him.. Friendships are easily broken, but when an enmity arises, it persists for ever.
Some people may remain inactive for some time' but broken fences, even though mended will never have the original looks or strength.

Many diseases attack the body in a small way.. We leave it as  "it is just a cold", "it is just a fever"  or "it is just a boil"  and neglect them.  But later on the same maladies can convert themselves to pneumonia, tuberculosis or a malignant growth.   So eternal vigil against enemies and disease  alone can keep us afloat.
