madviśiṣṭāśca tulyāśca santi tatra vanaukasaḥ
mattaḥ pratyavaraḥ kaścinnāsti sugrīvasannidhau||38
ahaṁ tāvadiha prāptaḥ kiṁ punaste mahābalāḥ
nahi prakṛṣṭāḥ preṣyante preṣyante hītarāḥ janāḥ||39
śrīmadvālmīkiye rāmāyaṇe sundarkāṇḍe sargaḥ 39
Sri Hanumaan after his heroic exploits in jumping over the sea for a distance of 100 yojanas and having met Divine Mother Sita in Ashokavana delivers the anguliyam (ring) and message from Rama to Her and reassures her that the big army of Sugriva along with the brothers Rama and Laksmana would come to Lanka and vanquish Ravana. While taking leave of her he makes this submission to the Mother.
" Among the servants of Sugriva, there are some who are equal to me and many who are superior to me in valour and resourcefulness. There is no one inferior to me there. If a fellow like me can jump the ocean and be present before you, Mother, will it be a difficult task for my friends and colleagues who are all either equal to me or superior to me. Take note of the fact, Mother, that usually only the most inferior servant is sent as a messenger and not the really great ones"
What a lesson in humility. All world knows that there is no greater living being was ever born to equal Lord Aanjaneya. With limited resources and knowledge and abilities we all try to brag and show off and tend to be arrogant. Will we ever learn...even if it is from a monkey?
