clean, shiny and bright ojects become famous even though they are of relatively lesser weight and size.

शुद्धाः प्रसिद्धिमायान्ति लघवोऽपीह नेतरे।

तमस्यपि विलोक्यन्ते दन्तिदन्ता न दन्तिनः॥

Objects which are clean, shiny and bright become famous and received popular acceptance even though they are of relatively lesser weight and size. This is not so with others ( who might be heavy and large but not clean and shiny) . The tusk of the elephant ( shiny white ivory) would be visible to everyone even in darkness but the large black elephant remains invisible in such dark background.

लघवः trivial , of lesser importance, light अपि even though शुद्धाः clean, pure, shining प्रसिद्धिं fame, popular acceptance आयान्ति reach . न not इतरे others

दन्ति दन्ता: the tusks of the elephant , the ivory तमसि darnkness अपि even in विलोक्यन्ते is seen, is visible दन्तिनः elephants न not

ശുദ്ധാഃ പ്രസിദ്ധിമായാന്തി ലഘവോഽപീഹ നേതരേ।

തമസ്യപി വിലോക്യന്തേ ദന്തിദന്താ: ന ദന്തിനഃ॥

ആകൃതിയിലും ഭാരത്തിലും താരതമ്യേന ചെറുതെങ്കിലും വൃത്തിയും തിളക്കവും ഉള്ള വസ്തുക്കള്‍ പെട്ടെന്ന് തിരിച്ചറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. പ്രസിദ്ധി നേടുന്നു. പക്ഷെ ഏറെ വലിപ്പം ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും അത്രയൊന്നും വൃത്തിയും മിടുക്കും ഇല്ലാത്ത വസ്തുക്കളും ആളുകളും പിന്‍ നിരയില്‍ തുടരുന്നു.

കൂരിരുട്ടില്‍ ആണെങ്കിലും വെളുത്ത് തിളങ്ങുന്നു ആനയുടെ കൊമ്പ്. പക്ഷെ ആ ഇരുട്ടില്‍ കറുത്തു തടിച്ച ഭീമനായ ആനയെ കാണാന്‍ ആര്‍ക്കും സാധ്യമല്ലല്ലോ.
