Appeal on Joy of the Giving week 2011 for expansion of education program of Migrant Children in Rural Maharashtra

by Annapurni Hariharan on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 7:46pm
Greetings Everyone,

Hope you are doing well.

As you are aware, over the 21years, Vikas Sahyog Pratishthan (VSP) (http://www.vspindia.org/About_Us.aspx)  is helping poor communities such as landless and marginalized farmers, women, youth and children from disadvantaged sections. It helps to strengthen livelihood resources and promote dignified life.

Currently VSP is helping the children of migrant and poor families in their education. This work is being done in villages of Buldhana, Parbhani, Bhandara and Sholapur in collaboration with local voluntary organizations and support of organizations like American India Foundation.

Migration has been one of the major problems across the country. Children and their education gets affected the maximum, which deprives them from quality education and enhanced livelihood opportunities.

Till June 2011 we have facilitated 1639 students to cover their educational deficit by adopting simplified leaning method through 24 learning centres; supported 240 children through seasonal hostels facility. Mobilized 10,000 people in spreading awareness & monitoring of Right to Education act in 100 villages.

This year in 110 villages of above mentioned 4 districts we have planned following activities.

  • 100 Learning Enrichment Centres,
  •   20 Tutorial classes for Upper Primary students (400 children)
  •  8 Tutorial classes for Secondary students (160 children)
  • In 30 schools promoting saving habits through bank accounts and postal saving schemes (1500 children would benefit)
  •  In 15 villages setting Bal Sansad that will campaign in a village to reduce the dropouts from the schools. (400 children are members)
  •  16 English classes for the youth (320 youth)
  • 8 Computer Literacy batches (160 youth)

We support the belief that No child should be deprived of education. Hence we are looking at expansion of our work.

We have been provided an opportunity by Give India through IGive Challenge 2011for raising necessary funds for the expansion of this project using through their website. You can support us in our cause by donating minimum of Rs.100 and multiples of Rs.100 at http://www.giveindia.org/iGive-VikasSahyogPratishthan In case you can't pay online please send a cheque to Give India, you will get the receipt for the same.
