नाप्राप्यमभिवाञ्छन्ति नष्टं नेछन्ति शोचितुम्।
आपत्सु च न मुह्यन्ति नराः पण्डितबुद्धयः॥
महाभारते विदुरनीत्याम्
nāprāpyamabhivāñchanti naṣṭaṁ nechanti śocitum|
āpatsu ca na muhyanti narāḥ paṇḍitabuddhayaḥ||
mahābhārate viduranītyām
Vidura defines exalted souls with knowledge and maturity in the following words.
The mature and knowledgeable person
Would never yearn for something which he knows as not capable of being attained or achieved
Would never put himself in a position where he would have to feel regret about something he has lost
Would never go out of control physically or mentally when confronted by dangers
നാപ്രാപ്യമഭിവാഞ്ഛന്തി നഷ്ടം നേഛന്തി ശോചിതും।
ആപത്സു ച ന മുഹ്യന്തി നരാഃ പണ്ഡിതബുദ്ധയഃ॥
മഹാഭാരതേ വിദുരനീത്യാം
വിവരവും വകതിരിവുമുള്ള, കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ പഠിച്ചു മനസ്സിലാക്കിയിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്‍
തനിക്ക് നേടാന്‍ പറ്റാത്തതാണെന്ന് സ്വയം അറിയാവുന്നവ നേടാന്‍ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുകയില്ല.
എന്തെങ്കിലും നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു എന്ന് കരുതി അതിനു വേണ്ടി ദുഃഖിക്കാനുള്ള സ്ഥിതിയിലും അദ്ദേഹം എത്തിച്ചേരാന്‍ ആഗ്രഹിക്കില്ല
പിന്നെ
ആപത്തുകള്‍ വരുമ്പോള്‍ അയാള്‍ക്ക്‌ ആത്മനിയന്ത്രണവും മനസ്സിന്റെ ഉറപ്പും ഇല്ലതാവുകയുമില്ല.
