कालः पचति भूतानि कालः संहरते तथा ।

कालः सुप्तेषु जागर्ति कालो हि दुरतिक्रमः ॥

kaalaH pachati bhootaani kaalaH samharate tathaa

kaalaH supteshu jaagarti kaalo hi duratikramaH..

it is from Chanakyaneeti

the sloka is found in almost the same words in Mahabharatham Stree parvam too.

Time cooks everything..

time too finishes off everything..

Time just keeps wide vigil while everything else is sleeping...

And time is the one who cannot be overtaken or overcome in any race..

Maybe like Income-tax Act time is being rather generous with Senior Citizens..

But only some peripheral reliefs.. no immunity from operation of time..

Kala is a word used to denote time..

Kala is a word used to name the God of death Yama too ..

And Kala Kala is the word with which we address the Supreme Being Shiva..

The Lord is also called Mahakala.. Kaalaagni rudra... yes.. we equate time with Him... or Him with time..
