we cannot by our effort ever change Karma..
But then Krishna said..
Aham twaa sarvapaapebhyoymokshayishyaami maa sucha....
सर्वधर्मान् परित्यज्य मामेकं शरणम् व्रज
अहम् त्वा सर्वपापेभ्यो मोक्षयिष्यामि मा शुच
sarvadharmān parityajya māmekaṁ śaraṇam vraja
aham tvā sarvapāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śuca
So a follower of Bhakthi way of life can trust that he can get over the ills of bad Karma through the veto of God..
The fact is that Hindu metaphysics has varied approaches to this issue..
The original mimasakaas etc were of the definite view that if there is praarabda karma, that can be spent out only through suffering the consequences..
And the results of good deeds like sacrifices etc take us to some better places like swargam and when the credit earned by those deeds dry up, we come back to this Karma bhoomi.. the land of Karma
We have two choices in Karma bhoomi..
do good and gain as much punyam as possible then go to heaven again to spend the good things..
Do bad things and go to narakam and expiate and come back..
A person with zero balance can earn and depoist any amount in that account.. and earn interest.. and can even live happily without touching the capital..
Or he can overdraw, take loan etc and become debtor too and face garnishees and attaachments..
But later movements and philosophies like Bhakthi, presumed that God has infinite power and He can waive the effects of bad deeds and emancipate the sufferer with moksham even or with temporary relief too..
Both theories are correct..
If you say blindly that there is no Karma but bhakthi can save you, you can hold that belief.. but that is not the entire and whole philosopy of Hinduism..
Remember, Hindu metaphysics especially in Nyaya, Vaiseshika, Yoga and Sankhya ways do depend mostly on cause and effect and even though they may respect Vedas and God too, the followers do not believe that their destinies are shaped by the whims of Gods or dictats of the Vedas..
