glory even in defeat....

नोच्चार्थो विफलोऽपि दूषणपदं दूष्यः तु कामो लघु॥

noccārtho viphalo'pi dūṣaṇapadaṁ dūṣyaḥ tu kāmo laghu||

Very tall aims and targets intended for great achievements, even if such targets fall off the mark or even if they fail altogether  during execution, are not deserving derision or contempt..

 But petty and selfish cravings and aims are to be looked down upon.. 

One may set out with great expectations.. but in spite of the best efforts, he may fail in his attempt. Still he is a hero.. And the mission is praiseworthy.. 

 This happens too many times, be it in sports, research or war.. 

But if the desires of a person are petty, selfish, and aimed at getting advantage at the cost of unfair detriment for others, then such desires deserved utter contempt and disapproval

നോച്ചാര്‍ത്ഥോ വിഫലോപി ദൂഷണപദം ദൂഷ്യ: തു കാമോ ലഘു 

ആഗ്രഹങ്ങളും ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങളും പ്രവൃത്തികളും ഉന്നതങ്ങളും വലിയവയും ആണെങ്ങില്‍ അവ ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങളില്‍ എത്തിയില്ലെങ്കില്‍ പോലും അവയെ ദുഷിക്കുകയോ തള്ളിപ്പറയുകയോ ചെയ്യരുത്. പക്ഷെ ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങളും പ്രവൃത്തികളും ബാലിശങ്ങളും അന്തഃസത്ത ഇല്ലാത്തവയും സ്വാര്‍ത്ഥതാല്പര്യം നേടാന്‍ വേണ്ടി മാത്രം ഉള്ളവയും ആണെങ്കില്‍ അവയ്ക്ക് ഒരു വിലയും ഇല്ല.
