ईक्षणं द्विगुणं प्रोक्तं भाषणस्येति वेधसा।
अक्षिणी द्वे मनुष्याणां जिह्वा त्वेकैव निर्मिता॥
īkṣaṇaṁ dviguṇaṁ proktaṁ bhāṣaṇasyeti vedhasā|
akṣiṇī dve manuṣyāṇāṁ jihvā tvekaiva nirmitā||

He gave us two eyes but only one tongue..
However we break the rule invariably.. Most of us wear our eyes on our tongues..
The Sanskrit couplet canvases the case for the eyes..
The meaning of the Slokam is
It is said that the creator Brahma thought it fit to give the eyes twice the importance of the tongue.. He created two eyes for every man but gave only one tongue for every one of them
Here “seeing” should mean not just gazing but implies keen observation.. Of course most us use our tongues without any rhyme or reason.. both for talking and for eating..
That is another thing.
Analysis
ईक्षणं seeing കാണുന്നത്
भाषणस्य of talking സംസാരിക്കുന്നതിനേക്കാള്‍
द्विगुणं of double value ഇരട്ടി പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ളതാണ്
प्रोक्तं is said എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു
वेधसा by brahmadeva ബ്രഹ്മാവിനാല്‍
मनुष्याणां for men മനുഷ്യര്‍ക്ക്
द्वे two രണ്ടു
अक्षिणी eyes കണ്ണുകള്‍
एका तु only one പക്ഷെ ഒന്ന് മാത്രം
जिह्वा tongue നാവ്
निर्मिता created സൃഷിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു

ബ്രഹ്മാവ്‌ കാഴ്ചക്ക് മിണ്ടുന്നതിനേക്കാള്‍ ഇരട്ടി പ്രാധാന്യം കല്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. മനുഷ്യന് രണ്ടു കണ്ണുകള്‍ ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും നാവ് ഒന്നേയുള്ളൂ
കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ കണ്ട് മനസ്സിലാക്കി ജീവിക്കുന്നതാണ് വെറും വാചകമടിയേക്കാള്‍ എപ്പോഴും നല്ലത് എന്നാണു നാം മനസ്സിലാക്കേണ്ടത്
