The functions of a well formed and well developed human mind

शुश्रूषा श्रवणं चैव ग्रहणं धारणम् तथा

ऊहोपाहोऽर्थविज्ञानम् तत्वज्ञानं च धीगुणाः॥ महाभारते

śuśrūṣā śravaṇaṁ caiva grahaṇaṁ dhāraṇam tathā

ūhopāho'rthavijñānam tatvajñānaṁ ca dhīguṇāḥ|| Mahabhaarate 

The functions of a well formed and well developed human mind housing the intellect are

1. The impulse and the willingness to listen, hear

2. The physical process of hearing or listening to the issue

3.The process of recognition of a fact as a whole mass

4. The process of evaluation and intake in minute details what is already noticed

5. The process of forming views and arguments in favour of an issue on hand

6. The process of forming view and arguments against an inssue on hand

7. The process of understanding the issue globally after evaluation the pros and cons as above

8. The process of understanding an issue in all its depth and in all its dimensions.. the final product of an effective thought process.

शुश्रूषा the impulse, the willingness to hear, to listen श्रवणं the process of hearing ग्रहणं the process of recognition as a whole धारणं the process of evaluation and intake in minuteness of what is recognized ऊहा trying to form views in favour of something आपोह trying to form opinions against something अर्थविज्ञानं thorough understanding of the general meaning and content of the issue on hand तथा then तत्त्वज्ञानं detailed and in deapth understanding of the issue under consideration च एव too धी गुणाः the properties of the intellect, the cognitive process of the mind भवन्ति is

ശുശ്രൂഷാ ശ്രവണം ചൈവ ഗ്രഹണം ധാരണം തഥാ

ഊഹോപാഹോഽര്‍ത്ഥവിജ്ഞാനംതത്വജ്ഞാനം ച ധീഗുണാഃ||

നല്ല വിധം വളര്‍ച്ച ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു മനസ്സിന്‍റെയും ഉന്നത നിലവാരം പുലര്‍ത്തുന്ന ധിഷണയുടെയും ലക്ഷണങ്ങള്‍

൧. വിഷയം കേള്‍ക്കാനും ശ്രാദ്ധിക്കാനും ഉള്ള സന്നദ്ധത, പ്രവണത.

൨. വിഷയം കേള്‍ക്കുക എന്ന പ്രക്രിയ

൩. കേട്ട വിഷയം പൊതുവേ നല്ലവണ്ണം ഉള്‍ക്കൊള്ളുക

൪. പൊതുവേ ഉള്‍ക്കൊണ്ട വിഷയം അപഗ്രഥിച്ചു കൂടുതല്‍ വ്യക്തമായി മനസ്സിലാക്കുക

൫. വിഷയത്തിനു അനുകൂലമായ ഘടകങ്ങളും വാദങ്ങളും മനസ്സിലാക്കുക

൬ വിഷയത്തിനു പ്രതികൂലമായ ഘടകങ്ങളും വാദങ്ങളും മനസ്സിലാക്കുക

൭. അനുകൂലമായും പ്രതികൂലമായും ഉള്ള ഘടകങ്ങള്‍ മനസ്സിലാക്കി അവ പരിഗണിച്ച് വിഷയത്തെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള സ്ഥൂലവും സമഗ്രവും ആയ ചിത്രം സ്വരൂപിച്ചെടുക്കുക
