सेवाधर्मः परमगहनो

मौनान्मूकः प्रवचनपटुर्वाचको जल्पको वा
धृष्टः पार्श्वे भवति च वसन् दूरतोप्यगम्यः।
क्षान्त्या भीरुर्यदि न सहते प्रायशो नाभिजातः
सेवाधर्मः परमगहनो योगिनामप्यगम्यः॥
नीतिशतकम्  भर्त्रुहरेः
maunānmūkaḥ pravacanapaṭurvācako jalpako vā
dhṛṣṭaḥ pārśve bhavati ca vasan dūratopyagamyaḥ|
kṣāntyā bhīruryadi na sahate prāyaśo nābhijātaḥ
sevādharmaḥ paramagahano yogināmapyagamyaḥ||
nītiśatakam  bhartruhareḥ

The sad plight of a menial servant is indeed miserable.  Even an ascetic may not be able to cope up with the demands of the job and the rebukes the servant recieves.  If he keeps quiet, he is accused as dumb. If he talks with reasonable sense the he is branded as either a chatterbox or a fellow who talks nonsense. If he goes very near to the master, he is accused of arrogance.  If he keeps distance, then he is a nincompoop;  If he shows patience, he becomes coward  and if he does not show patience, then he is accused as non-aristocratic. How ironic?
