शास्त्राण्यधीत्यापि भवन्ति मूर्खाः
यस्तु क्रियावान् पुरुषः स विद्वान्।
सुचिन्तितं चौषधमातुराणां
न नाममात्रेण करोत्यरोगम्॥
हितोपदेशे मित्रलाभे १६८

yastu kriyāvān puruṣaḥ sa vidvān|
sucintitaṁ cauṣadhamāturāṇāṁ
na nāmamātreṇa karotyarogam||

Mere education and bookish knowledge need not make our lives worth living. Learning assumes its worth only when it is applied in real life situations.
The subhashitam from Hitopadesham conveys that nice idea in a crisp way.
Some idiots remain idiots even after learning scriptures and sciences thoroughly. The really knowledgeable and efficient person is the one who would act and put to right action what he has learned. Remember, if a person is sick, and the doctor just meditates upon the name of the medicine, such contemplation will not cure the one who is ill.. Only administration of the medicine would effect cure.

ഒട്ടേറെ ശാസ്ത്രങ്ങളും ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങളും എല്ലാം വായിച്ചു പഠിച്ച ശേഷവും ചില മനുഷ്യര്‍ വിഡ്ഢികളായി തന്നെ തുടരുന്നു, ശരിയ്ക്കും അറിവുള്ളവന്‍ എന്ന് ഒരാളെ വിളിക്കേണ്ടത് അയാള്‍ പഠിച്ചതും പ്രവൃത്തിപരിചയം നേടിയതുമായ വിഷയങ്ങള്‍ ദൈനന്ദിനം ജീവിതത്തില്‍ എല്ലാവര്‍ക്കും ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുന്നവിധം പ്രയോഗിക്കുമ്പോഴാണ്
ഒരാള്‍ രോഗം ബാധിച്ചു കിടക്കുമ്പോള്‍ വൈദ്യന്‍ ഒരു നല്ല മരുന്നിന്റെ പേര് ഉരുവിടുന്നതു കൊണ്ട് രോഗിക്ക് സുഖക്കേടു ഭേദമാവില്ല. മരുന്ന് കണ്ടെത്തി രോഗിയെക്കൊണ്ട് സേവിപ്പിച്ചാല്‍ മാത്രമേ രോഗശമനം ഉണ്ടാവൂ.

But there is the other side too. Unless you learn the edus or books you will remain ignorant for ever. First you should learn to use the gun properly and you should use it with purpose too. However a gun is of no use to one who does not know how to use it.
Provebs and parables would try to stress the importance of one idea and in that process might tend to show another equally valid idea in a lesser light. But the wise person should evaluate all the pros and cons and decide.
Some masses of people fail to understand this and invite misery for themselves
