check even at its origin words which are injurious and sharp

 

मर्माण्यस्थीनि हृदयं तथासून्रूक्षा वाचो निर्दहतीह पुंसाम्।

तस्माद्वाचमुषतीं रूक्षरूपां धर्मारामो नित्यशो वर्जयीत॥

महाभारते

marmāṇyasthīni hṛdayaṁ tathāsūnrūkṣā vāco nirdahatīha puṁsām|

tasmādvācamuṣatīṁ rūkṣarūpāṁ dharmārāmo nityaśo varjayīta||

Cruel and sharp words pierce the heart and bones and force themselves deep into the vitals too of the human beings who listen. Therefore a person who desires to tread path of righteousness should, as a matter of habit, check even at its origin words which are injurious and sharp
