जानाति मन्दरगिरिर्जलधेर्महत्वं लङ्केश्वरोऽपि गुरुतां रजताचलस्य ।
विद्वज्जनस्य वचसो महिमानमुच्चै र्विद्याविवेकचतुरा विबुधाविदन्ति -
सुभाषितसुरद्रुमः
jānāti mandaragirirjaladhermahatvaṃ laṅkeśvaro'pi gurutāṃ rajatācalasya ।
vidvajjanasya vacaso mahimānamuccai rvidyāvivekacaturā vibudhāvidanti -subhāṣitasuradrumaḥ
Only a person with knowledge and class can understand and appreciate the merits and glory of persons or objects which are really valuable. The imposing Mandhara Mountain, which was used to churn the milky ocean knows the real depth and capacity of the sea. Ravana, who had occasion to be crushed by the weight of Kailasa mountain while he tried to lift it, knows how big the imposing ranges are. Similarly, the great works and verses of the erudite scholars are read and praised only by people who have spent their lifetime in acquiring great knowledge and have acquired great critical faculties and expertise in their own field of study.
ജാനാതി മന്ദരഗിരിര്ജ ലധേര്മഹത്വം ലങ്കേശ്വരോഽപി ഗുരുതാം രജതാചലസ്യ ।
വിദ്വജ്ജനസ്യ വചസോ മഹിമാനമുച്ചൈര് വിദ്യാവിവേകചതുരാ വിബുധാവിദന്തി -സുഭാഷിതസുരദ്രുമഃ
അറിവും തരവും വകതിരിവും ഉള്ള വ്യക്തികള്ക്ക് മാത്രമേ ചുറ്റും കാണുന്ന മഹാന്മാരെയും മഹത്തായ വസ്തുക്കളെയും കുറിച്ചുള്ള അറിവും അവയെ വേണ്ട വിധത്തില് കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യാനുള്ള കഴിവും ഉണ്ടാവുകയുള്ളൂ. അമൃതം കടഞ്ഞെടുക്കാന് കടകോലായി പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ച മന്ദരപര്വ്വത്തത്തിനു പാലാഴിയുടെ ആഴവും പരപ്പും മനസ്സിലാവും.. ഒരിക്കല് അഹങ്കാരം കൊണ്ട് കൈലാസ പര്വതം എടുത്തു പൊക്കാന് ശ്രമിച്ചു അതിന്നടിയില് കുടുങ്ങിപ്പോയ രാവണന് ആ മലയുടെ ഭാരം എന്താണെന്ന് നല്ലവണ്ണം അറിയാം. അതുപോലെ തന്നെ ഏറെ അറിവും ജ്ഞാനവും വിവേകവും നേടിയ മനുഷ്യര്ക്ക് മാത്രമേ മഹത്തായ കൃതികളുടെയും കവിതകളുടെയും ശാസ്ത്രങ്ങളുടെയും യഥാര്ത്ഥ അന്തഃസത്ത പഠിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു ആസ്വദിക്കാന് പറ്റുകയുള്ളൂ.
