our connection with this mother Earth.. is for ever..

A mind full of earthly thoughts on the Earth's Day..
--------------------------------------------------------------
We have to respect, not only respect, we have to revere, love.. our mother earth..
She is all that we really have..
She is so beautiful, though she is very very old..
She is benevolent beyond all limits..
She is forgiving beyond all limits..
She is called kshama...
kshama means patience..
she will just laugh away all the damage being perpetrated on her..
But then she might be dying a gradual death..
Can we afford it..?
Our connection with our biological mothers would end once the umblical chord is cut..
But our connection with this mother Earth.. is for ever..
In fact we are born in her,
live with her
and have to choose her womb only for our eternal sleep..
Our forefathers always knew the worth of this benevolent matriarch..
who is the ultimate role model in sacrifice..
but her sacrifice now turns into self immolation..
And her children are callous,
inconsiderate,
selfish,
murderous.
As she receives all our onslaughts,
we increase the pace of contaminating her surface, her air,
We add poison to her surface, we infuse more poison into her innards..
We are thankless..
But we are just ensuring our own destruction as a race..
We have to wake up.. and act..
We have to love our mother earth..
We have to have at least a little care for this grand old lady,
our own mother,
our mother's mother,
and the mother of our grandparents of all generations..
and the mother of our children and grandchildren and all the generations to come too.
For Vedic rites,
collecting twigs,
kusha and doova grass,
clay or mud from the colonies of ants,
all were done after invoking the permission of the herb or creature concerned..
and mother earth too..
Permission is sought from the trees and plants before Bilva and Thulasi are plucked..
Above all, it was the custom to cut small twigs from certain trees with thorny branches, which oozed milk too, and use them for cleaning the teeth every morning..
Even for that, there is a mantra requesting the plant to give permission, and bless us with health because we used their branch for our own purification..
We really know how to love our mother earth and the constituents who live along with us..
But nowadays we appear to veer towards callous neglect to respect such things, maybe because we have started to take things for granted..
Anyway, one alternate name for Mother Earth is Kshama which means patience..
So we can hope that She will pardon us.
We can hope so , but her patience can be her death, and our death too..
Can we afford that..
A mind full of earthly thoughts on the Earth's Day..
