The process of writing Ramayanm starts....2

In the third Sarga of Balakandam, the various incidents in Ramayanam are cryptically depicted as passing through the mind of Sage Valmiki, as if in a sort of recapitualation of real life incidents, as he sits in deep meditation ready to compose the epic.

जन्म रामस्य सुमहद्वीर्यं सर्वानुकूलताम्।

लोकस्य प्रियताम् क्षान्तिम् सौम्यताम् सत्यशीलताम्॥१०

The birth of Rama, His great valour, His favourable disposition towards all, the love and affection He had for all those who were around Him, his steadfastness in character, his calm and placid nature, His stedfast adherence to truthfulness, .. all these passed through the mind of the Sage..

note of birth of Rama..

Rama was the son of Emperor Dasharatha of Ayodhya, and Kausalya. He was born on the Ninth day after new Moon, on the star Punarvasu in the Chaitra month.. Bharatha, Lakshmana and Shatrughna were His brothers.

नाना चित्राः कथाश्चान्या विश्वामित्रसहायने।

जानक्याश्च विवाहम् च धनुषश्च विभेधनम्॥११

Rama and his brothers were growing up as worthy and valourous youths.. Sage Vishvamitra once visited the Palace at Ayodhya and requested the King to send Rama and Lakshmana along with the sage to the forest as they were to protect from the attack of demons the area where a yajna was proposed to be performed by the sage . After some hesitation, the King sent the two princes along with the sage Vishvamitra.

While Visvamitra was travelling along the forest in the company of Rama and Lakshmana, he narrated to them various glorious stories about the heroes and deities of the lore and these included the story as to how the River Ganga Came to the earth, how the oceans were fille by the efforts of Bhagiratha, how Kumara the Skanda was born, how Vamana measured the three worlds and sent Bali to rasatala and so on..

Rama killed the demoness Tadaka.. Provided protection to the yajna observed by Sage Visvamirta. During their protective operations, Rama killed Subhaahu the demon and drove away his brother and demon Mareecha ..j

Visvamitra then conducted the boys to the Palace of Janaka of Vidheha.. There Rama lifted and broke a huge bow which bore the power of Lord Shiva.. Sita, the daughter of Janaka was offered in marriage to Rama.. Lakshmana, Bharatha and Shatrugna married Urmila ( sister of Sita) , Mandavi and Shrutakeerti (daughters of Janakas brother Kushadvaja).
