Someone asked what exactly was the meaning of "Tarpanam."
My idea about that is
Tharpanam means doing something that will give pleasure, satisfaction and relief to the one on whose behalf or for whom the action is taken..
For example offering water or til would give pleasure and happiness and even relief from distress to pitrus etc.
When we give arghyam in the shape of tarpanan to nine planets and the Lord Narayana in his twelve names during Sandhyavandhanam it is to give satisfaction and pleasure to them. And when the Lord is offered tarpanan in His twelve names the whole universe gets, happy and satisfied
You know when Krishna just swallowed a tiny piece of leftover leaf curry from the Akshaya patram of Draupadi the stomachs of all the living beings in the universe were all filled and satiated
