I am always reserving my understanding and study of concepts on a stand-alone basis... free from any particular dogma or creed..
yes, we take the expression to particular schools of thoughts and allow it to be evaluated on that basis, then the outcome of the enquiry also will be subject to the rules of that particular school...
If it is Yoga system then sure, we are bound or tempered by niyama and yama..
But if we try to view spirituality on a wider canvas, it would be seen that it can survive even without yoga, or its constituents, yama and niyama.. Sometimes even crass illogical allegience or bhakthi can be the basis of spirituality..
Of course, we can go about a discussion in a scientific manner when all the ground rules, references, language, presumptions are all agreed upon on the basis of a consensus of sorts..
We cannot strictly adhere to such rules in a friendly discussion of very wide canvas..
Here an idea without full definition may be presented, and we may appear to reach blind alleys for want of predetermined boundaries..
But when we can tolerate and understand one another, we can easily define or interpret our views frankly and with mutual respect, and benefit from such exchanges..
In such discussions, ego can play a spoil sport..
If anyone of us hold on to a particular stand as true and perfect just because it was our own idea, then discussion stops and shadow fighting, and then even fist fight can follow..
In fact when people who respect one another discuss, there is no danger..
But in open forums especially in social media, people just barge in from nowhere, manage to spoil the discussion and spoil even the friendship and simply vanish..
We should guard against such intruders, and also take care to ensure that such hiccups do not spoil the broth..
Knowledge is a treasure.... a jeweler exhibits his precious gems with a lot of care.. And the connoisseur examines them with great respect and equal care.. But an imbecile can run in between and snatch away the whole collection, throw it into floor of dirt.. leaving the jeweler and the watcher in distress and shame..
We have to care, we have to take care..
