the eternal soul

न जायते म्रियते वा कदाचित्
नायम् भूत्वा भविता वा  न भूयः।
अजो नित्यः शाश्वतोयम् पुराणः
न हन्यते हन्यमाने शरीरे॥
भगवद्गीता
na jāyate mriyate vā kadācit
nāyam bhūtvā bhavitā vā  na bhūyaḥ|
ajo nityaḥ śaśvathoyam puranṇaḥ
na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre||
bhagavadgītā
It is never born, it will never die, it was present right from eternity and it will be there for ever, the soul is an imperishable phenomenon, and it does not find an end when the body dies.
The words are also eternal..Arjuna is miserable as he feels that he will have to kill many of his kith and kin and also see many die in the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Krishna,  The Blessed Lord spells out this eternal truth to erase for ever Arjuna's illusion that he is capable of killing anyone.  The medium is Arjuna but the message is to the whole mankind for eternity.
