सद्भिरेव सहासीत सद्भिः कुर्वीत सङ्गतिम्।
सद्भिर्विवादं मैत्रीं च नासद्भिः किञ्चिदाचरेत्॥
समयोचितपद्यमालायम्॥
सुभाषितरत्नभण्डागारे।

sadbhirvivādaṁ maitrīṁ ca nāsadbhiḥ kiñcidācaret||
samayocitapadyamālāyam||

The company one keeps consistently plays a vital role in shaping his life and its quality and worth.. Therefore this subhashitam advises that one should seek the company of the virtuous people only and that people of evil qualities should be avoided.
The meaning of the subhashitam, found in the compilations Samayochita Padyamalika and also in Subhashita Ratna Bhandagaram is
One should sit with virtuos people only
One should live in the company of good people alone
One should debate with only people of great qualities
One should seek and maintain friendship only with people of character
And
One should never seek out contacts with bad people.
The instruction seems to be quite simple.. But in reality, we find it difficult to know who is good, find good people, and for many reasons, we avoid good people too..

നല്ലവരോടു മാത്രം കൂട്ടുകൂടുക
നല്ലവരോട് ഒപ്പം മാത്രം താമസിക്കുക
ചര്‍ച്ചകള്‍ ചെയ്യുന്നത നല്ല വ്യക്തികള്‍ക്കൊപ്പം മാത്രം ആവണം
സൌഹൃദങ്ങള്‍ നല്ലവരോട് ഒപ്പം മാത്രം ആകട്ടെ
ഒരിക്കലും ചീത്ത വ്യക്തികളുമായി സമ്പര്‍ക്കം പുലര്‍ത്തരു ത്
ഇത് വളരെ എളുപ്പമാണെന്ന് തോന്നും.
പക്ഷെ ആരാണ് നല്ലവര്‍ എന്ന് തീരുമാനിക്കാനും, നല്ലവരെ കിട്ടുവാനും. അങ്ങിനെ കിട്ടിയാലും അവരുമായി സംഗമിക്കാനും എല്ലാം ഒട്ടേറെ പ്രയാസമുണ്ട്
പിന്നെ സാഹചര്യങ്ങള്‍ ഒത്തു വരികയും വേണം
