क्षुद्राः सन्ति सहस्रशः स्वभरणव्यापारपूर्णोदराः
स्वार्थो यस्य परार्थ एव स पुमानेकः सतामग्रणीः।
दुष्पूरोदरपूरणाय पिबति स्रोतःपतिं बाडवो
जीमूतस्तु निदाघसंहृतजगत्सन्तापविच्छित्तये॥
सुभाषित रत्नाकर सभा तरंग
kṣudrāḥ santi sahasraśaḥ svabharaṇavyāpārapūrṇodarāḥ
svārtho yasya parārtha eva sa pumānekaḥ satāmagraṇīḥ |
duṣpūrodarapūraṇāya pibati srotaḥpatiṁ bāḍavo
jīmūtastu nidāghasaṁhṛtajagatsantāpavicchittaye ||

Most of the human actions are one and the same in the physical sense. But the intention and purpose behind the action makes the difference.. Good and generous people engage in physical action for the benefit of all. Others just do things for mere filling of the belly.
The above subhashitam reveals that
Meaning
There are thousands of silly and insignificant people who just engaged in activities with the sole aim of filling up their stomachs.. However, the one who just considers the interests of others as his own and acts for the welfare of others is the one who is the foremost among human beings
We see the submarine fire, Badavanala, inside the sea.. The sea is getting filled with water all the time, but this fire just drinks off such water constantly just to satiate itself.. However, the cloud up in the sky drinks the water from the same sea, just for the purpose of giving relief to the whole earth which is scorched dry by the summer heat

സ്വന്തം താല്പര്യങ്ങള്‍ മാത്രം നേടിയെടുക്കാനും സ്വന്തം ഉദരം നിറയ്ക്കാനും മാത്രമായി ജീവിച്ചു മരിക്കുന്ന ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് ആളുകള്‍ നമ്മുടെ മുമ്പില്‍ ഉണ്ട്.
സ്വാര്‍ത്ഥതാല്പര്യങ്ങള്‍ മാത്രമേ അവര്‍ക്ക് മുന്നില്‍ ഉള്ളൂ. പക്ഷെ അപൂര്‍വമായെങ്കിലും ചിലര്‍ മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ നന്മയും താല്പര്യങ്ങളും സ്വന്തം കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ പോലെ കരുതി മറ്റുള്ളവരെ സഹായിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ജീവിക്കുന്നവരായി ഉണ്ട്.
മനുഷ്യരില്‍ ബഹുമാന്യനായും പ്രഥമഗണനീയനായും കരുതപ്പെ ടേണ്ടവര്‍ അത്തരം വ്യക്തികളാണ്
കടലിന്റെ ഉള്ളില്‍ത്തന്നെ ബഡവാഗ്നി ജ്വലിച്ചുകൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കുന്നു. സ്വന്തം ദാഹം തീര്‍ക്കാനായി സമുദ്രജലം കുടിച്ചു വറ്റിച്ചുകൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കുന്നു.
പക്ഷെ മേഘങ്ങളാകട്ടെ, സമുദ്രത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് ജലം വലിച്ചെടുത്ത് കൊടും ചൂട്ടില്‍ നീറുന്ന ഭൂമിയിലേക്ക്‌ കുളിരും ആശ്വാസവും പകര്‍ന്നുകൊണ്ട് മഴയായി പൊഴിയുന്നു
