पुन्नाम्नो नरकाद् यस्मात् त्रायते पितरं सुतः। तस्मात् पुत्र इति प्रोक्तः स्वयमेव स्वयम्भुवा॥ मनुस्मृत्यां ९-१३८ punnāmno narakād yasmāt trāyate pitaraṁ sutaḥ| tasmāt putra iti proktaḥ svayameva svayambhuvā|| manusmṛtyāṁ 9-138 A quote from Manumriti.. Chapter 9 A male progeny born to a man, saves the man from the hell names Put.. Therefore the child is called Putra.. This is stated by svayambhu the Brahmadeva himself.
