Namaskara Mantrams to the Lord Ayyappa
शबरिगिरि निवासं शान्तहृद्पद्महंसं
शशिरुचि मृदुहासं श्यामलं बोधभासम्।
कलित रिपुनिरासं कान्तमुत्तुङ्गनासं
नतिनुतिपरदासं नौमि पिञ्छ्रावतम्सम् !!
॥स्वामिये शरणं अय्यप्प ॥ 1
śabarigiri nivāsaṃ śāntahṛdpadmahaṃsaṃ
śaśiruci mṛduhāsaṃ śyāmalaṃ bodhabhāsam।
kalita ripunirāsaṃ kāntamuttuṅganāsaṃ
natinutiparadāsaṃ naumi piñchrāvatamsam !!

I offer Pranams to
the Lord Who has taken as his abode the mountain of
Sabari,
The Lord who resides like a swan in the tranquil hearts of the devotees
The Lord radiates a smile which is as bright and cool as the rays of the full moon
The Lord who is dark in hue,
The Lord who is radiating the glow of eternal knowledge
The Lord who acts as if he is indebted to the devotees who worship him and depend on him.
शबरिगिरि निषान्तं शङ्ख कुन्देन्दुभान्तं
शमधनहृदि भान्तं शत्रु पाळी कृतान्तम्। ।
सरसिजरिपुकान्तं सानुकंपेक्षणान्तं
कृतनुत विपदन्तं कीर्तयेऽहं नितान्तम् !!
॥स्वामिये शरणं अय्यप्प ॥2
śabarigiri niṣāntaṃ śaṅkha kundendubhāntaṃ
śamadhanahṛdi bhāntaṃ śatru pāḻī kṛtāntam। ।
sarasijaripukāntaṃ sānukaṃpekṣaṇāntaṃ
kṛtanuta vipadantaṃ kīrtaye'haṃ nitāntam !!

The Lord who shines forth with a row of teeth which are brilliantly white resembling the fresh conch from the sea, the jasmine flower and the shining bright moon
The Lord who shines forth in the hearts of persons whose ultimate possession is patience and tranquillity
The Lord who is the nightmare and destructive spirit for the array of enemies rising against him
The Lord who is resplendent like the full moon who is the enemy of lotus
The Lord who is the master of the Bhootha Ganas who occupy the valleys of the mountain
The lord who is the one that finishes off all the dangers of persons who praise him and depend on him
शबरिगिरि कलापं शास्त्रसिद्धान्त दीपं
शमित सुजनतापं शन्तिहीनैर् दुरापम् ।
कर धृत सुमचापं कारणोपात्त रूपं
कचकलित कलापं कामये पुष्कलाभम् ॥
॥स्वामिये शरणं अय्यप्प ॥ 3
śabarigiri kalāpaṃ śāstrasiddhānta dīpaṃ
śamita sujanatāpaṃ śantihīnair durāpam ।
kara dhṛta sumacāpaṃ kāraṇopātta rūpaṃ
kacakalita kalāpaṃ kāmaye puṣkalābham ॥

I desire with limitless earnestness for the affection of the Lord who basks in the brilliant shine of the ever devoted and affectionate attention of Devi Pushakalaa
The lord who wanders around happily in the precincts of Shabari mountain
The Lord who is capable of enlightening all people around on the intricate meanings of Shastras and nuance of sciences , just like the glow of a lamp, The Lord who has destroyed the agony of all the good people
The Lord who would uproot the sins from the hearts of the persons who practice peace and tranquillity
The Lord who wields a bow made of flowers as if he is resembling the Lord of Love Kamadeva Himself
The Lord who is indeed the formless eternal being but has assumed human form just for the benefit of humanity
शबरिगिरिनिकेतं शङ्करोपेन्द्रपोतं
शकलित दितिजातं शत्रुजीमूतपातम्।
पदनतपुरुहूतं पालिताशेषभूतं
भवजलनिधिपोतं भावये नित्य भूतम् ॥
॥स्वामिये शरणं अय्यप्प ॥4
śabarigiriniketaṃ śaṅkaropendrapotaṃ
śakalita ditijātaṃ śatrujīmūtapātam।
padanatapuruhūtaṃ pālitāśeṣabhūtaṃ
bhavajalanidhipotaṃ bhāvaye nitya bhūtam ॥

I meditate upon the Eternal Being
Who is having his abode at Sabarigiri
Who is the darling son of Shankara and Upendra the Vishnu
Who has torn off and destroyed arrays of sons of Diti, the demons
Who is like a huge thunderbolt which strikes and annihilates his enemies
Who is the one whose lotus feet are worshipped by Devas including Indra
Who is the protector of the entire living world
Who is the boat or raft that would sail us safely across the sea of worldly woes
शबरि विहृतिलोलं श्यामलोद्धारचेलं
शतमखरिपुकालं शर्ववैकुण्ठबालम् ।
नतजनसुरजालं नाकिलोकानुकूलं
नवमयमणिमालं नौमि निश्शेषमूलम् !!
॥स्वामिये शरणं अय्यप्प
śabari vihṛtilolaṃ śyāmaloddhāracelaṃ
śatamakharipukālaṃ śarvavaikuṇṭhabālam ।
natajanasurajālaṃ nākilokānukūlaṃ
navamayamaṇimālaṃ naumi niśśeṣamūlam !!

I offer my Pranams at the feet of the Lord who is the root cause of everything
Who is treating the Sabari area as the whole universe and is happy to move around that hilly range
Who is giving relief and fulfilment to persons who wear garment of black colour Who is the annihilator of the enemies of Shatamakha, the India
Who is the son of Sharva the Shiva and Vaikunda the Vishnu
Who is the one before whom the entire crowd of devas throng around in obeisance
Who is always doing favours to the occupants of naaka.. the heaven
Who is wearing necklace made of the nine precious gems. 5
शबरिगिरिकुटीरं शत्रु सम्घातघोरं
शतगिरि शतधारं शष्पितेन्द्रारि शूरम्।
हरिगिरिशकुमारं हारिकेयूरहारं
नवजलदशरीरं नौमि विश्वैकवीरम् !!
॥स्वामिये शरणं अय्यप्प ॥ 6
śabarigirikuṭīraṃ śatru samghātaghoraṃ
śatagiri śatadhāraṃ śaṣpitendrāri śūram।
harigiriśakumāraṃ hārikeyūrahāraṃ
navajaladaśarīraṃ naumi viśvaikavīram !!

I offer my Pranams to the one and one only valorous person in the universe, Ayyappa
Who is living in a hut-like abode atop the Sabarigiri
Who is indeed very terrible when dealing with his enemies
Who is the lord of thousands and thousands of hills and mountains
Who has, by his valour made the enemies of Indra float and flee in the air as if they were just dry leaves
Who is the son of Hari the Vishnu and Girisha the Siva
Who is wearing very attractive ear ornaments and garlands
Who is shining forth with the body hue of fresh dark cloud
सरसिज दलनेत्रं सारसारातिवक्त्रं
सजलजलदगात्रं सान्द्रकारुण्यपात्रम्।
सहतनयकलत्रं साम्बगोविन्दपुत्रं
सकलविबुधमित्रं सन्नमं तं पवित्रम् !!
॥स्वामिये शरणं अय्यप्प ॥ 7
sarasija dalanetraṃ sārasārātivaktraṃ
sajalajaladagātraṃ sāndrakāruṇyapātram।
sahatanayakalatraṃ sāmbagovindaputraṃ
sakalavibhudhamitraṃ sannamaṃ taṃ pavitram !!
॥svāmiye śaraṇaṃ ayyappa ॥ 7
I prostrate at the lotus feet of that sacred personage, Ayyappa
Who is having eyes resembling the petals of full blown lotuses
Who is having a very attractive mouth with pouting lips (the pouting lip that would put to shame even the beautiful beak of a crane)
Who is having body colour resembling pitch dark coloured clouds laden with rain waters
Who is the reservoir or storehouse of concentrated mercy for his devotees
Who is giving audience for us in the company of His consort and son too
Who is the son of Saambha the Siva and Govinda the Vishnu
Who is the bosom friend of all the divine occupants of the heaven.
ശബരിഗിരി നിവാസം ശാന്തഹൃത് പദ്മ ഹംസം
ശശിരുചി മൃദുഹാസം ശ്യാമലം ബോധഭാസം।
കലിത രിപുനിരാസം കാന്തമുത്തുങ്ഗനാസം
നതിനുതിപരദാസം നൌമി പിഞ്ഛ്രാവതംസം !!

ശബരിഗിരി നിഷാന്തം ശങ്ഖ കുന്ദേന്ദുഭാന്തം
ശമധനഹൃദി ഭാന്തം ശത്രു പാളീ കൃതാന്തം ।
സരസിജരിപുകാന്തം സാനുകമ്പേക്ഷണാന്തം
കൃതനുത വിപദന്തം കീര്ത്തയേഽഹം നിതാന്തം !!
॥സ്വാമിയേ ശരണം അയ്യപ്പ ॥
ശബരിഗിരി കലാപം ശാസ്ത്രസിദ്ധാന്ത ദീപം
ശമിത സുജനതാപം ശന്തിഹീനൈര് ദുരാപം ।
കര ധൃത സുമചാപം കാരണോപാത്ത രൂപം
കചകലിത കലാപം കാമയേ പുഷ്കലാഭം ॥
॥സ്വാമിയേ ശരണം അയ്യപ്പ ॥
ശബരിഗിരിനികേതം ശങ്കരോപേന്ദ്രപോതം
ശകലിത ദിതിജാതം ശത്രുജീമൂതപാതം।
പദനതപുരുഹൂതം പാലിതാശേഷഭൂതം
ഭവജലനിധിപോതം ഭാവയേ നിത്യഭൂതം॥
॥സ്വാമിയേ ശരണം അയ്യപ്പ ॥
ശബരി വിഹൃതിലോകം ശ്യാമലോദ്ധാരചേലം
ശതമഖരിപുകാലം ശര്വവൈകുണ്ഠബാലം ।
നതജനസുരജാലം നാകിലോകാനുകൂലം
നവമയമണിമാലം നൌമി നിശ്ശേഷമൂലം !!

ശബരിഗിരികുടീരം ശത്രു സംഘാതഘോരം
ശതഗിരി ശതധാരം ശഷ്പിതേന്ദ്രാരി ശൂരം।
ഹരിഗിരിശകുമാരം ഹാരികേയൂരഹാരം
നവജലദശരീരം നൌമി വിശ്വൈകവീരം !!

സരസിജ ദലനേത്രം സാരസാരാതിവക്ത്രം
സജലജലദഗാത്രം സാന്ദ്രകാരുണ്യപാത്രം।
സഹതനയകലത്രം സാംബഗോവിന്ദപുത്രം
സകലവിബുധമിത്രം സന്നമം തം പവിത്രം !!
