I will never venture to place any swami or pontiff above Puranas or scriptures.

When I was just trying to explain some issue on the basis of recordings in Puranas and Some ancient rules, one learned friend remarked that a recent Guru had a different take on the matter.. I do not want to name the Guru, and I too admit that I revere that guru..
But I am not able to give greater importance to such explanations over Puranas, Vedas and Shastras when they are beyond the purview of such holy texts..
My humble view in such situations was presented there.
I just quote my comment there..
"these takes are just guess work.. may be the guesswork from a VIP.. In the last two centuries or so we started giving utilitarian definitions and meanings to many activities.. Such guesses are okay.. Anyone, not necessarily a VIP too can make such guesses.. But such guesses can never be equated to what is said in texts like puranas... God has His own place. Puranas have their own place, and explanation on the basis of circumstances by any great person has its own place too.. Even upanyasakaras like Sengalipuram, Balakrishna Sastrigal or Velukkudy make such guesses.. They do not have the force of scriptures.. although the present followers of certain swamis tend to believe that whatever is uttered by such swamis are even truer than Vedavakyams.. I will never venture to place any swami or pontiff above Puranas or scriptures.."
